A Letter to Myself - My first day on an Oncology floor

This was something that I wrote after experiencing my first day of a semester-long clinical rotation on an oncology floor. I wrote this to help me process the many different emotions that I experienced that day...there were many. I was going to keep it private, but then this might help other nurses or nursing students who go through the same things. My thoughts... Read More...

Things you'd love to tell a fellow nursing student or faculty...

There is a thread I subscribed to in general nursing that is "things you'd love to tell a coworker" (or similarly titled) and I've loved following it! I think we nursing students need one! I'll start... Read More...

Nursing shortage expiration a myth!

I was trying to find out about a few things that I heard regarding the nursing shortage ending back in 2009. I heard today that the nursing shortage only depends on the area. In some areas, there is indeed a shortage; in other areas, there is a glut of new grads. How true is this and what are these areas? Read More...

Living independently while in Nursing school, is it possible?

I would really like to move out as soon as possible. My home life is not a good situation, I've been working almost full time since I was in 8th grade and pretty much taking care of all of my living costs along with an unstable, addicted parent, besides the mortgage. So please no answers that I simply won't be able to move out cause I'm too young and don't know the responsibilities. At this point, moving out would be the best choice for my mental well-being. What I'm asking is if it is possible to do while in Nursing school? Read More...

The Day Nursing Student Apathy Got to Me

When I first started in our emergency department night shft, I noticed that the 2-3 students were largely ignored for the first half hour or so during shift change. They stood nervously by the desks, repeatedly adjusting their coats and bookbags with a look of "please tell me what to do!" on their faces. One day last semester, a pair of students came down and I noticed increasing amounts of boredom/irritation as I went through my orientation... Read More...

Is my nursing school too selective?

I just started my second semester of nursing school at a community college. Usually every year 48 students get excepted into this program, however, of that 48 only 15 graduate. This school seems to pride itself in the amount of students they "kick out" each semester. Is this how all nursing schools are? should I consider a different school or stick with it? HELP! Fired for posting on facebook

They just fired a girl for bashing the company's name on face book. Risking my life to go to a underpaid job at CH is not worth it is not really bashing the company. It was a negative comment but she never said they were a bad company just that she was under paid and not worth taking a chance with her life to drive in the snow. What are your thoughts about this? Buying VS. making drug cards; need advice

Second semester student, 4th week in. We're starting (started, I'm a wee bit behind!) drug cards in Pharm, and I'm faced with a dilemma. Our bookstore sells pre-made drug cards with everything you need. But, I could also make them myself. I can't decide which to do. Does anyone have any insight? Read More...
