Is this typical of a nursing school? Help with Arterial Blood GasesI need help in understanding this one ABG problem.
I understand why something is a respiratory or metabolic cause. For the questions that that have both the CO2 and HCO3 going in the same direction, I am still confused. For example: pH is 7.33, PaCO2 is 34, HCO3 is 27, and PO2 is 96. The answer is Metabolic acidosis; partially compensated. Hurts ReviewMy qbank scores 78,82, 84,90,88/125 not percent. "We're not here for that"Today while in clinicals I saw a fellow nursing student standing in the hallway outside a patient's room. I asked her what was up and she said, "This patient had an accident and is a mess. The NAC said she would be here in 10 minutes and it's been 15 minutes." I told her that we were allowed to provide that kind of care to any patient on the floor and it didn't have to be our patient. Her response, "We are nursing students, we are not here for that." Pulse heard over RUQ & LUQ?When listening for bowel sounds, a loud pulse was heard over the RUQ & the LUQ, but is not heard in either of the lower quadrants of the abdomen. What could this be? Wow! I couldn't believe it...I really was shocked. I prepared and studied, that is all I do. Just last semester I was President's List! In fact just got my certificate in the mail, and don't even feel worthy to hang it. Here's the thing...
The NCLEX is probably the single most important step towards becoming a nurse. Any aspiring nurse should start preparing for the NCLEX long before the actual test date – years before, as soon as he or she decides to take up nursing. The NCLEX, like most if not all, major tests, is designed to test the baseline knowledge of its takers, and as such, working hard throughout nursing school should ensure that the knowledge needed to pass it is already mostly there by the time it is time to take it.
