Death, for many nurses, is the enemy. We come to work ready to conquer it or, at the very least beat it back, beat it down for another hour or another day. However, I never felt that way; as a patient, as a family member, or as a nurse. Death was never wanted, never welcomed but neither was it the enemy nor the ultimate loss in a battle of good vs. evil...
Spirituality transcends race & religion. It is creatively expressed in many events. As nurses, we are faced with personal encounters of man's mortality. These events may challenge and nourish our spirituality. Our practice is a venue for the diversity of human faith. The lives that occupies the hospital beds could affect us profoundly, personally & spiritually.
Have you ever taking care of a patient who is a nurse? How did they behave? Demanding? Understanding?

As I receive rejection after rejection for nursing jobs, I feel the need to apologize to nurse recruiters/managers who overlook my BSN because I lack patient care tech experience.
I am sorry I could not afford to take a job as a tech making 7 an hour. You see while attending school part-time, I needed to maintain a home, equipped with mortgage payments, children and all the other responsibilities of wife and mother...
There is currently a palpable low morale among the nurses in the very large teaching hospital where I work. Quite a few seasoned nurses have been fired for seemingly frivolous reasons. Working hard, well-liked, never call in, have never been in trouble and suddenly fired. Many nurses say they are trying to find new jobs because they are afraid they will be suddenly fired....
Sometimes the doctors I work with make me want to cry because they are so damn good. I know we all have our fair share of complaints but what are some of my fellow AN favourite doctor moments?
Here's a couple of mine...
Where I work sometimes if there are not enough CNAs or float pool coverage available they will assign the RNs to work as aides. I have written my concerns about this to the nurse manager. They say we do the job of an aide but you "work to your license" which means I have as much responsibility legally to the patients in my care as their assigned nurse does yet I get an aide's report which usually does not even tell me why the patient is there, only the chores that need to be done!
For patients with major trauma who are admitted to level I or II trauma centers, those who are transported by helicopter have improved survival compared to those transported by ground emergency medical services, according to a study published in the April 18 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, a theme issue on comparative effectiveness research.
Hey gang, just wondering if anyone is going to the Pediatric Nursing Conference in Boston in May. My unit is sending me. Not sure yet if anyone else from my unit is going. Would be nice to hang with others
After years of hard work, you finally graduate from nursing school and in spite of rosy predictions of a great job market, you're finding it's really hard to find a job. Maybe even worse than finding a spot in nursing school, or harder than passing the NCLEX. I hire employees and I know what goes on on the other side of the application process.
I was curious to find out how and when is Back to Sleep introduced to parents in your units? Also is there any product that your unit uses to promote Back to Sleep, such as HALO SleepSacks? If you do use the product, please describe when do you put the baby in it and how is it laundered... Do you tend to lose it in laundry much, are nurses satisfied with it, etc?
