Alzheimer's: Communicating in Pictures

Sometimes it's difficult to know how to spend time with an Alzheimer's patient. How do you talk to someone who doesn't remember the past forty years? This article is about communicating with my mother, but it changed the way I communicate with my dementia patients.

Old Nurse-Bet Me!

Overview done with humor, from an experienced old nurse who is older than "dirt" on surviving in a world of young, fresh nurses, working in a mentoring capacity. On occasion with it's good, aggravating and average eight hour shifts (LOL) to always remember "tomorrow is another day."

Time for some introspective criticism perhaps?

Don't preach to me that you want to see "5s" on the surveys when you barely staff well enough for "3s".

With that said, I'd like to take a look at the staffing problem from a different, more introspective angel. I recently finished doing a boat load of OT this pay period.

Why do nurses fight so much with one another?

I realize that nursing is a team effort, but I'm wondering how hard it is to mind your own business and go about your job without "getting into it" with other nurses? I felt bad for the RNs I was working with..their patient care techs were lazy and gave them all kinds of attitude...the doctors and patients were barking at them...and then..for some reason..they were always fighting amongst each other.

Student Discussions

Darn you, allnurses...Darn you all to heck!

Stop it! Stop tempting me! I'm supposed to be studying. Darn you and your seductive ways. Darn you all to heck.

Where Do You Study???

This is my first Thread! I really want to know where do all my fellow nursing students can really focus and study at? I am having a hard time finding somewhere to study...

Irritating Classmates

I know we've all seen the threads about those classmates that makes us want to stick a knife in our head, but I'm at wits end at this point. We're only halfway through the program, but the amount of noise, drama, and childishness from some of them is giving me headaches.

Quality of care is it possible

I have worked in most all areas of the hospital now and even did a stint as assistant director. But, I just can't help but feel frustrated.

I work in a very busy unit, everyone works hard for the most part. But, I continue to find that on most days I am not able to give quality of care to my patients.  I am so busy trying to initial, sign and fill out paperwork...
