In spite of the frustrations faced daily by most nurses, there are certain things that keep me coming back to my job day after day. This is about those things...
When I tell people I'm a mother-baby nurse, the usual reaction is, "Oh, what a great [fun, exciting, happy, insert positive adjective here] job that must be!" Sometimes, that's a true statement. But what most people don't realize (or if they do, they don't mention it) is that when bad things happen, they are very very bad. Families and staff alike need support, though each needs a different kind. This article (part 1) is about supporting families through what is likely one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Pediatric primary care interventions may offer an important opportunity for reducing media exposure in young children and increasing parent-child interactions in low-socioeconomic-status families, according to two studies published in the January issue of the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

I'm not proposing rationing or coercion. I don't want to make decisions for pts or families. What I DO want is someone objective, to honestly and compassionately provide hard truths about what death and dying looks like.
Do male nurses actually wash the male and female genitalia? I'm sure this question has been around for ages, but I can't find an answer anywhere... I just find it hard to believe that a male patient would want or even allow a male nurse to do those things.

I've been thinking alot about my Facebook account since all the problems it has brought to people not only in nursing school but also peoples lives.
So my question to you is: if you get accepted to nursing school will you delete your account? Or if in school now will you delete after you graduate?
I did not see any thread on February 2011 support group, so I decided to form a forum for us to share our view, plan and how to pass for the test. As we all prayer for each other to continue with this journey I wish everyone who is taking NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-LVN/LPN.
Join the excellent group!
I saw a news item from the Kansas City area that four students were suspended because they took pictures posing with a placenta and posted them on facebook ... As I mentioned in other threads, my particular school laid it right out there on the line - that they would take disciplinary action, up to and including removing you from the program if you post inappropriate material ... I really think you're playing with fire if you start to either 1) air your grievances or 2) post tasteless content on facebook.
Regional Discussion - Nevada
Hey everyone. I was talking with a 3rd semester CSN RN student and he said that the Mosby drug guide sucks. He recommended the 2009 Prentice Hall drug guide instead because it helps you do the drug cards easier, and helps in clinical. I want to know if the 2011 Pearson (formerly Prentice Hall) or the Davis are better than the Mosby. Anyone have any info on this?
