First Year
One year of nursing went by FAST. I can honestly say that the anxiety of not knowing what to expect prior to each shift has vanished. I never thought it would. Took a while but it went away. I've had some frustrating, funny, and sad experiences. I know I have many years ahead of me and I'm working on those next steps to further my career...

I honestly think I went into nursing, in part, because I didn't think I could do any better and I couldn't fathom working in a role where I would actually have to be a boss or make important decisions. I viewed nursing as very subservient and I was totally OK with spending my life in the background and taking orders (that is what I thought nursing was, at the time.) This was over 10 years ago now and I don't see nursing that way anymore, and I do think I have grown into the role to some degree, and I'm not as fearful as I once was.
Do NOT tell a nurse that his/her job is easy. It is brutal physical, mental, and emotionally EXHAUSTING work. I have heard you saying that you could do it - just passing pills and then sitting down reading a magazine.
Let me tell you this.
I'll admit to being somewhat cranky today, and this is a vent. This is only a vent. Please do not accuse me of being mean to or mistreating anyone I'm venting about! But I swear, people's parents neglected to teach them manners!
I know you're a brand new NP and all, and very proud of your degree, your knowledge base and your new prescribing privileges. You would look every so much MORE professional, though, if you weren't chewing a big ole wad of gum with your mouth open and snapping, cracking, popping and blowing bubbles!

I have one week until classes start for me. I know that many new nursing students start to feel anxious around this time. I am not so worried about the work, clinicals or anything like that. I'm actually excited about diving my nose into the books again. I thrive when I'm super busy in academia and I love it.
I just started NS last week. I have a six month old baby and a teenager at home. My husband works weird hours and the teenage is, well, a typical teenage. So when my husband is at work I have very little help with the baby or with chores, which means very little time to study. The problem comes when my husband IS home.
I am pulling these pages out and taking them with me every where I go. I strongly recommend doing this- it simplifies everything, and there will be absolutely no question as to what they are looking for, and you will only be studying what you need to know, not all the extra stuff.

As a new grad, is it better to apply for positions now or wait until I get my RN license? Am I just wasting my time if I apply for positions now?
