For all of the nurses out there wanting to perfect their skills in their profession, I highly recommend that you take a look at Life Coaching. I've been to many conferences and learned so much about my specialty, lab results, technology, and so forth. I even went to seminars to learn to deal with difficult people. Life Coaching is one of the most effective communication tools available today and is designed to place decisions, responsibility, outcomes, and celebrations with the people they belong too, our patients and their families. I hope this sounds interesting to you.

Hi a relative of mine was an RN. She just lost her job over a HIPAA violation. She took a cellphone picture of a patient and sent it to a friend. She later had a falling out with the friend and he threatened to forward the picture to the hospital. She went to her supervisors and told them about this threat, police were called to deal with the friend. She was given the option to quit or be fired and quit.
I think that we all, as a group, [need to] be gentle with each other. Try to take what might be perceived as a personal attack as constructive feedback and respond as if you are speaking with a respected mentor. Many nurses here are wonderful sources of information, experienced or not. If you hear someone really and truly getting it all off their chest, don't take it personally. No one is maligning your family tree if they're having a bad day. Let's all listen and learn - one day it will be you needing to vent.
I really wish to hear from those that simply have nothing left to give, are empty and still have to show up and do it all over again until they find something different. I don't want a pep talk, I wish to have a discussion with those that are compassion fatigued, exhausted and simply empty.

I am tired of keeping this to myself and suffering alone.
Here is a little background, my husband has a history of both emotional and physical abuse. Whenever I stood up, he pushed me down by reminding me of my past ( which is very, very painful ).
Before I started nursing school a few years ago, I had a horrible bout with major depression; I had no plans but knew that I needed to support my three babies (which are teens now). As I got more education, he became even more jealous. As long as I was depressed and dependent, he was happy.
Alright, so I heard from someone that while she was in nursing school she had to strip down, do physical exams and then be naked for the rest of the class! I'm not a nursing student yet, but this scared me. I'm not comfortable with my body and plus there are guys in these classes. I don't know whether to believe it or not. Can anyone tell me if you had to do this? I'm really freaked out.
I will be entering a CNA training program soon, and I have the entire uniform ready except for the shoes. We can wear any kind of white shoes, so I'm wondering what the best type would be. A lot of nurses I've seen wear Crocs, are they awesomely comfortable or something? Is that the ideal healthcare shoe? Or should I opt for a cheap pair of white tennis shoes from Payless?

What I'm going to do from here on out, I don't know; but I don't see myself continuing much longer in this position with the prevailing attitudes and the uncertainty regarding my hours, even after I recuperate from the arthroscopy. I'm a fifty-something nurse with years of experience and I will NOT let myself be abused again---not here, not anywhere. Is there ANY nursing facility, hospital, clinic, or other healthcare setting that doesn't treat nurses like dirt?

As a nurse im sure you are presented with people from all races and cultural backgrounds, and sometimes language barriers exist. I am fluent in both english and spanish but i would definitely like to pick up another language. so i wanted some feedback in choosing a third language. Got any ideas?
