Yesterday I started work before I went to work.
Didn't have anything for breakfast at home, so I decided to go to McDonald's on the way. When I got there, there were no other cars in line and only 1 little old man sitting at a table that I could see through the windows. I pulled up, ordered, and continued to the first window.
When I got there, the cashier girl took my money in a jerky fashion...

So I am VERY excited about nursing, I will find out in two weeks if I am accepted into the RN Program. It really interests me and seems like something I will enjoy. The only thing that bothers me is EVERY nurse I have spoken to tells me they hate their job and if they could take it back they would have went into a different profession. They tell me not to do it.
I am still young, 25, but need some stories of encouragment. I have a 2 yo son and am due with my 2nd little one in December. I am registered for fall classes at my local college and will continue to take my pre-req's until I am done. I always kick myself in the butt though for not getting right in after high school graduation and taking my classes seriously; I was definately a slacker and can't afford to be that anymore. I have always wanted to be a nurse and can't imagine myself anywhere else.
So I am curious to know the stories, as I am sure they will be encouraging, at what age did you decide to start taking classes to become an RN? Did you have children? etc.
So, it's official, Nursing school is the hardest thing I've ever done...ever...
Don't get me wrong, I'm still loving this learning process & soaking up insane amounts of new information everyday, but when they said nursing school was all-consuming they weren't kidding. I know I can get through this, I know I have the brainpower to process & apply these totally confusing concepts, I know I am going to make a competent & compassionate nurse someday...
Nursing Humor
One of my family members recently had a colonoscopy and subsequently wrote this seriously funny letter to the Dr. who performed the procedure. I thought it should be shared...

I am in my early 50's. I am in classes now and worried that being in my 50's as a nurse will keep me from getting a good nursing job. I guess that "officially" hospitals and employers can't discriminate based on age. But what will REALLY happen? 2nd question - where are all of the nursing employees that are in their 50's and 60's? Are they in a different medical line of work? I don't see them in the hospitals when I visit there occasionally.
