Debt! I'm making the right choice, right?

This is long -- so sorry... I'm venting (/crying) and I'm so afraid of what people might say, if there is any response at all. This is a really personal and important subject to me so be kind please. I'm graduating this month from college (private) with a large amount of debt. I was initially going to become a teacher...

Was I Inappropriate

I was thinking about this patient and how nice she was. I called her room to check on her. I just let her know I had been thinking about her, and asked how she was doing...get well soon, etc. She seemed very appreciative. A few days later I told her PACU nurse that I had spoken with her. This nurse was very offended with me and said I had broken HIPPAA (sp?) laws by calling the patient to check on her. Is this true?

"Why don't you just be a doctor?"

Last night, I was approached by a gentleman, and after a few minutes of small chat, he asked what I was in school for. Proudly, I said "nursing", and he gave me a not so nice look, and replied with "Why don't you be a doctor?". I was immediately thrown off, and very annoyed ...

What can a high school student do to get into....

I am currently a high school student interested in going into Nursing. I've been hearing all about how difficult it is to get into Nursing schools, how new grads aren't finding jobs, how there really isn't any nursing shortages, etc.

So, has hiring picked up for everyone else??

Has everyone gotten a job but me? I'm not seeing nearly as many 'No thank you, New Grads' posts as I used to. For the record, I'm still jobless. Applications submitted: probably 120. Interviews: 0. Fun, fun.

Has it picked up everywhere but New England? Do I just live in a sucky area and everyone else finally got jobs? I hope so. That would be nice for everyone else. Somehow, I doubt it though....

Top 10 Myths of the "MURSE"

Okay, somebody had to say it (and I am not sure if anyone has, only a member for a short time), so it might as well be me! As my name on this site would imply, I am a MURSE. And I just wanted to put to rest some common myths about such strange creatures as myself.

New Grad Freaking out about jobs

I graduated in December and just got my license in April. For this past month I've been submitting resume after resume after resume. Probably about 50-60 so far. I am not picky, and very flexible. I applied to Hospitals, LTC, Rehabs, surgical centers. I got one interview at an ambulatory surgical center but they are looking were looking for an Experienced OR nurse so this job was definitely not for me. They don't even have training!
