Brian's Notes With the recent Swine Flu news, we decided to create a new Pandemic Flu Discussion forum, where nurses can discuss and share news on the Swine Flu and other Pandemic issues. You will also find CDC Swine Flu updates and guidelines. Will you work during a pandemic? Currently, less than 50% of nurses say that they would work during a pandemic. Do you feel properly trained? I was being trained on a medical/surgical floor, and one of the nurses on the floor believed that inmates were only permitted to ambulate on the floor with their guards after visiting hours were over. Inmates are commonly put on our floor as there are a couple of prisons in the vicinity of the hospital. But I definitely want to pursue a BSN after that, and then hopefully a Master's (I'm thinking Nurse Practitioner.) I know it's so early and I will undoubtedly experience things along the way that will shape me, but that's my plan for now. How about you? Anyone else thinking that far ahead? I even have the schools planned out and everything LOL. Read More Regional Discussion - New York Last night when I went into work, (a small community hospital) the charge nurse and two LPNs were actually screaming at each other, using profane language all the while patients and their families were walking right in front of where this was all taking place. In the end, the charge nurse yelled "I don't have time for this ****" and kicked a stool across the nursing station, slamming into the wall. The other nurses in the nursing station continued about their work like nothing was happening. Read More
