Dear Cheaters

If you think you are not harming anyone by your actions, you are wrong. You are very likely hurting not only yourself, and cheating yourself out of becoming the best nurse you can be, you are also harming your entire class, and very likely those who follow behind you. The consequences of cheating do affect the entire class, especially those students who put as much effort into studying for an exam, as you do figuring out a supposed easy way to pass. It creates an atmosphere... Read More...

Too quiet to be a nurse?

Today was the worst day I've had so far in nursing school. I admit that I'm not a very outgoing person, but I'm great with my patient's. I'm able to communicate with my patient's and the nursing staff at clinicals without a problem. However, today my instructor had a conversation with me and asked me "do you even have any friends"? I told her that no I haven't made any close friends but I do talk to different people in my class. She then told me that I am very strange and that makes her question herself about me. Read More...

Which stethoscope should I buy as a Nursing student?

I was browsing on amazon and came across a bunch of stethoscopes between $5-$10 so i bought two different brands. I got those in the mail yesterday and i hate them! They are cheaply made but then again i understand you get what u pay for. I bought them because each had rave reviews from nursing students so i guess a lot of students are using those for nursing school. My problem with them is the moment i put them on, my ears hurt like hell. I cant leave those on for more than 10 seconds without wanting to cry. Read More...

What to do in this situation?

I have a friend who is a mother and provides care for her child at home. When she heard I was a nursing student, she offered to train me on numerous things I haven't learned. Drawing blood from a central line, changing the dressing on a central line, suctioning and so forth.

I told her that as a first semester student, I'm not even allowed to give a shot without my instructor there, so I would be willing to observe, but not participate. I'm too worried that she'll be overconfident in my skills because I am a student, and also because she is often looking for a nurse when hers calls off. Read More

Hardships/horror stories?

I have been reading and searching the threads and have read a lot of discouraging things. I am looking for anyone who has been accepted into nursing school or is now a nurse and can say "I did it when everyone said I couldn't". I just doubt myself a lot and I wanted to see if there was anyone else out there that didn't have everything go smoothly. I wanted to see if someone could give me advice on what to do that hasn't had it perfect their whole college career... Read More...

I need help with a care plan for Chronic Confusion!!

I am in my first semester of nursing school. I am still trying to figure out how to word things. I know what I want to say in my head but when it comes to documenting and phrasing it appropriately I am having trouble. I know I will get the hang of it eventually buuuut that leads to my question... So my Dx for my pt is Chronic Confusion. The short term goal I have is: the patient will remain safe and free from harm by the end of shift. Ok the problem with the short term goal is its not SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely). Read More...

Questions about TEAS

There are two testing dates to take the TEAS in December. I think there's more in January. I was planning on taking it in December but I started a new job, lots of homework, and been busy. I got the ATI official study guide from the college's library but only could have it for a week and it's due back Wednesday. I haven't studied at all. I'm so nervous for this test because it's really important. It gets me into nursing school! What books really helped you to prepare/study? And what's it like to not use a calculator? Read More...
