Worried about paying off student loan debt

As I further into my BSN degree, I find myself collecting more and more student loan debt. By the time I am finished with my degree, I will accrue approximately $100,000, and this worries me- a lot.

Would anyone be able to give me some faith that I won't be killing myself paying off this huge sum? I hate to go through all of this, only to find a job that will just allow me to get by in life when trying to pay down this debt. Is anyone going through/went through the same situation? Struggling in nursing school...

I'm doing so-so in one course but horribly failing in another course. The classes are a bit too accelerated for me, and combined with clinicals I feel like I don't have enough time to memorize and master the material in order to ace my exams. I'm tested every week, in both classes, and I cannot find a balance at all. I just don't understand why nursing is all about cramming, what is so wrong with giving students enough time to digest the material? Read More...

Things are not as bad as you think...

When it looks like things are not going your way. When it looks like everything is working against you. When it feels like the end of the world. Think of all the people who are still trying to get into school. Think of the person who just failed NCLEX for the 5th time. Think of the poor turkey who you or your friend will be eating on Thanksgiving day. Do you still think things are bad? Read More...

Pay Cut "Because of ObamaCare and Jerry Brown"

My boss just let me know that my rate of pay is going down a couple of dollars an hour because of Obamacare and a new law from Jerry Brown. (I'm in CA) Has anyone else heard or going to be affected by this? I pretty much told her if that's the case I won't be working there much longer. Read More...

Driving an hour to school there and back

I applied to 2 different nursing schools. One is 15-20 minutes away but I only got accepted to the LPN program. The other school is about an hour away and I would have to drive there I'm sure everyday just about. I got accepted to their RN program. Now I have a decision drive 20 minutes and be an LPN or 2 hours everyday going to the other school there and back.... I am worried about being overly exhausted. Driving an hour every day to school sounds like a bad idea. I want to be an RN but I'm dreading the fact that I'll be spending 2 hours everyday driving. Read More...

Have you ever had fellow students make you feel really stupid and incompetent?

I was in open lab today and was trying to help students a year below me insert a foley catheter. I went to set up my sterile field and I was a bit awkward with it. These students are a year below me and are making me feel like I don't know jack crap. I feel really horrible about myself now. Do people really expect nursing students to remember skills 100% that you learned over a year ago? I just need some reassurance. It just really bothered me, and I guess it hurt my pride. Sorry, but no...

I'm sorry but no. I do not call the people I work for, clients. They are my patients. I do not charge them nor solicit them. I care for them. I have gone to (or am going to) school for my professional designation as a registered nurse. I can't stand the term "client". Seriously. We are not in retail. Read More...

Help! Has anyone been kicked out for failing technical standards

I have been doing fine on the academic side but just got a letter that they are concerned about my ability to meet technical standards of behavioral emotional communication. They say I get things wrong.

Mainly they think I had been nitpicking when they mark my answers wrong when I can prove they are right. I tend to be a perfectionist and really get upset when I am treated unfairly.

Can they dismiss you for not being able to meet these "professional qualities" of sucking it up when I'm treated unfairly? I see my intensity is creeping them out. Obviously, I will try to lay low now. But I suspect there will be a second warning letter coming from a fourth teacher, so am I in danger? Read More

Received my 3rd rejection today.

I’ve worked so hard and put so much time into getting accepted into this nursing program. I really thought I would get in this time. So when I saw the email, I excitedly skimmed to the part “however, you have not been selected for admission”. It didn’t hit me until I called my mom to tell her the news. During the call I couldn’t speak, and I had to hang up so she wouldn’t know that I was crying. I had remained positive after my 2 previous failed attempts; however this time, I can’t deny the sadness and anger I feel. I can’t lie to myself and deny the truth, that all I ever wanted was to be a nurse. Read More...

Preload vs. Afterload

Confused here! With an occluded left coronary artery (ischemia), would it more likely to see a decreased preload or decreased afterload? Read More...

Current nursing student...but what to do after my BSN?!

I am enrolled in the BSN program at the University of South Carolina. I will be graduating soon but I don't know what to do after that. I have been looking at the BSN to DNP program can someone please shed some light as to whether that is worth it. I also was thinking of joining the air force (since I will have a bachelors degree, I will go in an an officer). I was looking into Nurse Anesthetist if I joined the AF. Which route would be better?! I just need to decide what path I want to pursue so I can make sure I have everything in order! Read More...

Graduation Cap Decorations

Anyone else thinking about decorating the top of their graduation cap for graduation if your school allows you to? I heard some people talking about it and then I looked on pinterest. There are some awesome ideas out there and I am excited. I just ordered some scrapbooking stickers and rhinestones to put on my cap for graduation. Read More...
