Keys to Studying better using your Visual, Auditory or Kinesthetic talents

Ever had that moment when you are trying to study and you find that no matter what you do things just are not sticking? Or you can't remember them when that big test come around?

Like me, you probably think that something is just wrong and maybe nursing is just not for you, because you've failed one test after the other. Well I've got good news for you…it may not be that you are not made for nursing it might be that you are using the wrong learning style to get through nursing school.

What is one's learning style? Well there are basically three type of learning styles... Read More...

What do you take to clinicals?

I know this question and/or similar questions have been asked, because I searched. Most of those threads are a couple of years old, though. I think this could benefit many of us entering nursing school in the fall. Thankfully, clinicals don't start (for me, anyway) until about the 8th week of classes. I'm just curious about what real life nursing students take to clinicals. According to my program, I must take... Read More...

Case Study: Fever

The following is a case involving a patient with fever. As the case evolves, I will present assessment findings, lab results, and diagnostic results in the hope of eliciting responses on how we would approach the care of this patient. I'm extending this to multiple parts and it may drag on for weeks. Please feel free to post your thoughts. Be nice to each other though, this is a free forum of expression but always remember to adhere to this site's TOS. Though this case is based on a real patient case from start to end, some facts have been altered to protect privacy. Read More...

Hello! I'm new to allnurses!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. After years of working at a job I find unfulfilling, I've finally decided it was time to return to school! I will be a pre-nursing student as of this fall, hoping to eventually become an RN. I am excited (and a little nervous!) beyond words. I've always known that I wanted to help people in some way. At first I thought of going into social work, but I ended up choosing nursing, and I think it will suit me well.

I've been reading threads on this site for a number of months now and finally signed up today. I look forward to chatting with you all and hopefully learning a lot as well!

Also, I should add that I would be appreciative of any study, organizational, or general tips you can give to me as a pre-nursing student! It's been a while since I've been in school! Read More...

Any direction on areas of nursing I should consider?

I'm just starting my accelerated BSN program. I'm having a hard time envisioning myself as a nurse, because there are so many kinds of nurses, that I just don't know where I'm going to fit in. I'm looking for some suggestions as to which kinds of nursing experiences I should seek to experience while in school, so that I can find the right fit for me. Read More...

How I Survived Nursing School! 15 Tips that could help you!

Congrats on making it into nursing school! It's a very exciting time in your life. I know when I first started nursing school it was for me! As a graduate of nursing school I'd thought I reach out to those who are trying to get through and give you 15 tips on how I survived nursing school.

  1. I trusted in God and leaned on my higher being for strength.
  2. I never listened to negative people. There are a lot of negative people in nursing school and you have to separate yourself from that thought process.
  3. I never accepted failure or... Read More...

Organizing Class Work, Handouts, and Binders

Are Saunders questions similar to NCLEX?

I'm currently reviewing from the saunders book (the yellow one) and they seem much easier to me than the questions offered by Kaplan bank. For the people who used the Saunders and passed NCLEX, did you feel it was similar to the NCLEX exam? Read More...

What made you choose nursing?

The reason I've decided to pursue nursing is two-fold. I have many family members that are nurses. Some chose nursing as their first (and only) career, and others went back to school in adulthood. I've always found it a fascinating profession. The second reason I have decided to pursue nursing was due to my involvement in a rescue operation at a boating accident last year. I ended up being one of the first on scene to a deadly crash. I walked away from that day with a deeper appreciation for life in general and a strong desire to actually HELP people. I'm currently taking pre-reqs and am hoping to start a BSN program in a couple years (I work a very busy FT job and will only be able to take 1 or 2 pre reqs a semester.) How do you know that becoming a nurse is the "Right" thing to do? Read More...

Older Nursing Students

I am 50 years old and I am doing my prerequisites. I will be 51 if I get into the nursing program and 52 when I become a LPN. I took care of my mother for 10 years until she passed away in August of 2010 and I decided to go for my LPN. Am I Crazy or should I go for it. Anyone else did this and was successful? Read More
