Less Common Nursing Interview Questions (Part 1 of 4)

Due to the current economic situation, many local employment markets across the United States contain a multitude of job seekers in competition for a very limited number of positions. To weed out the excessive number of qualified candidates, human resources personnel and hiring managers are scrutinizing applicants more closely and asking tougher interview questions than ever before.

Without further delay, here is a list of tough interview questions that you might be asked. Some of these questions are very odd and unconventional, but they all have a specific purpose. Read More...

Random drug tests in nursing school?!

Just out of pure curiosity how many of you have underwent a random drug test during your program? Do these happen a lot? Or only when a student is being suspicious? I'm aware of the annual drug screening but not the random ones. Any insight please!! Read More...

Nursing school doesn't have to be hard...

You need to sit down and schedule time for school, studying, eating, and sleeping. Once you do that schedule time for social activities. Yes, you can still enjoy life while in nursing school.

Tips:

  1. Schedule time for study.
  2. Schedule time for eating. If you have to take vitamins/supplements.

Poop in nursing

I am an RN. My niece is 18 and hoping to go to nursing school. Recently she told me that there will be no poop cleaning at her nursing school or in the hospital she plans to work in. "I am not going to be THAT kind of nurse. I won't have to change adult diapers."

I was shocked when I heard this! Why had I and all of my nursing coworkers chosen "poop" nursing schools! Where is this special poop free hospital? Read More...

Am I stupid for not doing the ABSN?

About a year ago after I graduated with a previous bachelors degree, I decided to go back to school for nursing. To most people, it would seem obvious that I would have wanted an ABSN program.

Instead, I applied for a traditional 3-year BSN program and got accepted. I was beyond happy with getting in, but I kept hearing this voice of doubt and insecurity in the back of head. I'll be 24 when I start NS and 27 when I finish. I could have been done at 25.

I currently don't work and I have no kids. It seems like a foolish idea that I decided to pick the longer route. A second career older person in my chemistry class last semester confronted me. She asked me why I just didn't do the ABSN like she was doing. She had kids and a job. I felt like I couldn't remotely justify an answer. If she could do it, why couldn't I? Am I stupid for not wanting to rush something like this? Read More...

Online, but not Out of Touch

The faculty said the Associates degree nursing program was "extremely vigorous" but if you ask me that was putting it lightly. While my friends went to sandy beaches for spring break I stood home surrounded by mountains of flash cards, textbooks, and enough anxiety to make a Buddhist monk pull his hair out (if he had any). I was determined to succeed as a nursing student but there were still times when I wasn't sure how I was going to pass the semester. Nevertheless, thanks to a great support system and internal drive I happily graduated in 2 years earning my Associates degree in Nursing. Finally life was about to begin!

On the same day I learned of having passed the NCLEX I also found out I was pregnant with my first son! Amidst the joy and excitement also came the realization that finding a job and pursuing a Bachelors degree would prove to be quite impractical now, especially since my belly was beginning to show.

How could I take classes in a traditional classroom setting when my expected due date was mid-semester, and how could I return to class once my husband's paternity leave ends? Read More...

Thoughts on NOT studying day before NCLEX

For those who have already taken NCLEX, what are your thoughts on not studying the day before the test. I know what the experts say blah blah, I want opinions of people like me! If you DID study the day before, do you think it was helpful or wish that you would have relaxed? Read More...

Mean/Competitive nursing school classmates

I am a RN who just graduated nursing school in May. I went to a very competitive nursing program and could never understand why some of the students were so mean and conniving. Looking back , I did make some good friends, but most of the students pretended to be your friend in hopes of getting study material, but not many true loyal friendships were made. Is this normal? "Learning a New Language?"

My nursing school keeps telling us to "clear our schedules" and makes it sound like nursing school is going to swallow you up whole and not spit you back up until graduation.

I keep hearing that the first semester is the hardest because of "learning of a new language." What is that supposed to mean? Does this mean the critical thinking/different way of testing? The medical terminology in general? What exactly? Read More...

Do you find Kaplan Tree useful?

I have been doing bunch of qbank, qtrainer stuff for couple days and I take NCLEX on the 18th. I personally find that the Tree is actually messing me up even more, scores on qbank and trainer seem to come out little less than when I trust my own judgement.

With all honesty, I think the Tree is piece of crap, lol but I wanted to know if I was doing something wrong or that other people find it less useful also. Read More
