Auditory Learners

I'm beginning to think I learn best through listening to lecture and through discussion. Reading is soooo tedious and I fall asleep within minutes of reading my text books. Is it REALLY possible to learn this way and to learn enough to be able to critically think through answers choices? Read More...

Didn't like being a CNA, but 1st semester RN student

I got my CNA certificate back in 2008. I worked in several nursing homes, but I always ended up quiting. I was stressed out and sick to my stomach every day I had to go to work. I became a CNA while trying to get into nursing school. I'm finally in my first semester and I like it so far. We start clinicals next week and I'm really nervous, but the excitedness outweighs the nervousness. I'm just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience. Read More...

How to pick yourself up from a bad test score...

I'm in my second semester of an ADN program. This semester we have 4 tests and 1 final exam. The first exam I got an 88.33% and our 2nd test, I got a 78.33%. The sad part is, I thought this test would have been a little harder, so I even made a 6 page focus sheet and put more study time in. How the heck did I end up with that grade? We will review the test this Monday, so I can see what I did wrong. It just really lets the air out of your tires when your get below an 80% (that is the lowest you can go). Luckily with my first test grade, I am still at an 83%. I just don't want to be "just keeping my head above water"... Read More...

Need a pep talk - starting to feel like a complete moron

Gosh, I am used to being an A student. I usually do not have to work that hard for info to sink in, but I am by no means a slacker either. I always study hard and work hard for my grades, but man on man am I getting frustrated. These are not things that I think studying more will help on either. These NCLEX style questions are just hard to get used to. The wording on them sucks and to be honest sometimes I feel like it does nothing to prepare you to be a better nurse, but all to do with how to learn to read trick questions... Read More...

LPN to RN in NJ, trying to find a good school

I graduated from a nursing program for my LPN about a year ago and have since been working for a hospice, but not in the field. In an office, doing data entry and meds and chart auditing. I am working on trying to find an LPN-RN program I can go to and have narrowed it down to two different ones. Muhlenberg which is in Plainfield, NJ ... or Brookdale Community which is in Lincroft, NJ ... Any advice from someone who is in the program or has been through the program would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks in advance! Read More...

How long do you spend studying?

At the moment, I have Tuesday-Thursday in class then a four day weekend from Friday untill the following Monday. I study probably 2-3 hours on Mondays and Fridays and close to four or five on Saturday/Sunday. So roughly 15 hours. I also tend to study before/after classes or during breaks whilst I'm at school, but that's hard to calculate as social time with class mates can often interupt.

Also Starting a new job soon as a community support worker (15hours pw.) so I'm a bit worried whether it'll impact on grades or not.

So how long long do you guys spend studying? Read More...
