The Power of Being Empathetic Towards Those in Need

A nurse reaches out to a patient during a time of need. This patient had experienced a traumatic loss and desperately needed to talk to someone. The nurse saw this urgent need and watched how others never gave this patient the time. This precious time gave the patient the ability to share the story, thus allowing the nurse to show emotions and be empathetic towards the patient. Later, this small moment of time, resulted in a small return favor that showed a great appreciation for the nurse and proved the nurses theory. Read More...

MS in Nursing vs. MSN- What's the difference?

What's the difference between a Masters of Science 'that emphasizes in nursing' versus an MSN degree? I don't quite understand the exact difference based on the research that I have done. It seems like MSN is the more popular degree (out of the two), which makes me wonder if I would be able to get an NP position if I had the MS emphasizing in Nursing. Read More...

Any LPN to RN online programs that are accepted nationwide?

I've heard a lot of the online LPN to RN programs arent accepted in many states. Has anyone had any experience with these programs and what was your experience in getting them accepted by your board of nursing? I'm specifically interested in Excelsior. Read More...

To BSN or not to BSN

I am currently an LVN ( In california ) recently graduated, I have been mostly volunteering and keeping my old job in retail so I can continue school ( at a JC at the moment). My question is, whether to become simply an RN or BSN. There are several programs near my to become both. From what I have research, most hospitals or any acute care center for that matter prefers or wants BSN's. Is that mostly true in California? How is it out of state? or out of the Bay area from Cali? Nursing Scrubs: The Material Makes A Difference

The vast majority of nursing scrubs are made using blends of polyester and cotton, although some uniforms are 100 percent cotton and others are constructed with 100 percent polyester material. A small number of scrubs are made using blends of other synthetic fabrics such as rayon and spandex.

Depending on the specific needs and desires of the person who wears the scrubs, the material used to construct them most certainly makes a difference. Above all else, it is important that all nursing scrubs are made to be sturdy enough to endure many wearings, resist different bodily fluids, and stand up to multiple washings. Read More...

I am reading my syllabus correctly?

In my skills lab later in this first semester do we really practice foley catheters on fellow classmates or are there practice dummies for this?

I understand the importance of practicing, and even though I like my classmates, I don't want to know THAT much about them. Read More...

Large dose of reality just received!

I was sitting here decorating my binder, having happy thoughts about class this week, when a letter arrives.

Long story short it says this: READ CHAPTER ONE AND DO THE STUDY GUIDE BEFORE YOU EVEN COME TO CLASS OR YOU WILL FAIL. HAVE A NICE DAY.

Holy smokes! Guess it's true, I'm in the big leagues now! Read More...

Organization and shoe question for new nursing student

I'm just a little unsure how I should organize my binders. I bought two 2 inch Case-it binders, one blue and one purple, because I am going to attempt to color code my binders with the classes I will be taking my first semester. I don't think that two classes will fit in one binder, so I will probably go out and purchase two more binders. Also, I am tossing the idea around to have two separate Kipling messenger bags for my Mon/Wed, Tues/Thurs classes. Is this a good organizational method to go by, or is there a better way to prepare?

Also, the shoes. I have two bulging discs in my lumbar spine, so I need to find something with good support. Are New Balance shoes the best to get for the problem with my back, or is there a better pair of shoes out there?

I'm so glad I found this website... Read More...

Serious Role Confusion

I am entering my last NP clinical this coming Fall and feel quite happy to know that I have reached the end of my graduate program. My issue is that I feel myself rapidly detaching emotionally from my work and co-workers alike as a RN. There is a great part of me that now feels as though this work is beneath me and I feel resentful of it.

I was just wondering if these feelings are normal and if anyone else has had a similar experience and how you coped with the excitement of being so close to the finish line. Read More...

At clinical sites does anyone bring an extra pair with them in case something gross happens to the set you are wearing? Read More...
