Not satisfied with KaplanI am currently completing a Kaplan NCLEX review class. It was the only one offered at a discount at my school, so I took it. I'm not impressed so far. The decision tree has turned out to be a dud, as many questions can't be answered that way. And now I realize, maybe I should have taken a class with a little more content review. Are there other NCLEX prep companies out there that are better than Kaplan? Read More... Can you walk into the NCLEX-RN exam with gum in your mouth?Since I like chewing gum when I take exams, can I walk into the exam with gum already in my mouth? I know that nclex says no gum or candy but if I already have gum in my mouth could I go into the exam? Read More... Staff at the nursing school I was accepted to are being discouraging and rudeI went for a CPR course yesterday because I am starting a nine month full time LPN program next month. When I went to talk to financial aid and see how much my financial aid was going to cover she asked me if I had worked in a hospital setting before and when I said no she looked horrified and told me that "this is going to be a very hard year for you" and then asked me if "I realized how much studying is involved."... I have made lists of all the basic school supplies that I'll need and all books are included in the tuition so I guess we will get them on the first day. I am really anxious to get started so I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions of some books that I could read or of any supplies I should buy ahead of time. Or should i wait until after the first day of class and see what they supply for us? Read More... What should I do about this Instructor?I really need advice. To keep this kinda short, I will give you the short version. One of my instructors was told by another student that I was making fun of her stuttering over words on the power points, and that I made comments about how I don't learn anything from her. I never did this, and I can prove it... Read More... How to stand out as a New Grad?I'll be starting an ABSN program in the Fall, and want to be proactive to make myself an easy first choice to be hired in a sea of new grads in the metro NY area. What makes a new grad stand out from the crowd? Read More... Reciting nurse's pledge questionI was just told in class we'd be reciting the nurse's pledge before each class and at graduation. My issue with this is the first line.. has anyone else come across this issue? It's not a religious or privately funded school. I don't belong to a faith so pledging to a god makes me uncomfortable. How would you handle it? Read More... Working to become more competitiveI have 3 semesters left of nursing school. While in school, with my first degree I work part-time at a local college, teaching general education classes. Today I just got offered a position, Detox Tech, graveyard, at a rehabilitation center. What do you think would be better for me? What makes me more competitive? Would you rather see on a resume 2 years of experience as an Instructor or as a Detox Tech? Should I continue teaching, which is challenging, interesting, complex, or accept the Detox Tech position which seems boring but gives me some healthcare experience? Read More... Preparing for 1st Semester of Nursing SchoolI was hoping current nursing students, former nursing students, and future nursing students could all contribute to this thread. I wanted to have everyone write lists of the top 10 items you need for school. I know everyone has their own personal things to help them succeed. If everyone can contribute hopefully we can all benefit and better prepare ourselves for school... Read More... LPN Student debating completing CNA insteadI am a second semester LPN student and am having many hardships within this 8-week semester vs our usual 15-weeks. I have failed my first two exams of the summer semester and there is not enough time in the day to study as much as I am needing to. Lots of personal things arising at the same time, and other financially straining things. I am withdrawing from the clinical portion and am going to solely focus on theory for the remaining of the month... Read More...
