"There's nothing worse than a FAT nurse!"

In January, I decided to take control my life and lose weight. I have lost about 30lbs so far. So, when I went to my doctor last week, he noticed that I was 30lbs lighter. He asked if I was on a diet and I told him yes. I told him I was going to nursing school and want to be a good example if I'm going to lecture on proper diet and exercise. I guess my statement gave him a green light to... Read More...

Did you have to brush your classmates teeth?

Are LPN and Associate RN degrees really being phased or rumor?

I know that many hospitals are now transitioning to "Magnet" status, and thus require all nursing to have BSN degrees. How will this affect LPN or associate RN nurses? I'm grateful that I will be obtaining a BSN, but what about those who are satisfied with ASN and/or just dont care for continuing education?? Read More...

Just had my first hospital clinical day

I just had my first hospital clinical day. This is my first clinical day for med/surge, in my 2 previous nursing classes my clinicals were at LTCs.

It was so awesome and amazing. I have learned so much today. The RNs at the hospital were so kind and helpful. I was able to follow my pt to different units and the RNs in each unit took the time to teach me about the unit and how to care a pt who is in that unit. They taught me things that I won't be covering for a few classes, but that is awesome. Read More...

Is nursing still a good career choice?

So, I have been doing some research...apparently, the RN job market isn't what it used to be when I first began considering a career in nursing. My question is....is it a good idea to go to nursing school at this economic time? I am in no hurry. I am a former teacher and currently a SAHM to two boys, and can enter the workforce now or a little later. Read More...

CNA vs. PCA vs. HHA

I just got hired to start training as a PCA (personal care aide) for a home care agency and I'm wondering how this differs from CNAs and HHAs. I know CNAs work more on the medical side and HHAs do a lot with ADLs, so are PCAs somewhere in the middle? Does anyone here work in home care? Do you like it? Read More...
