Lessons Learned - Choose Your School Wisely

I wanted to share some insight and knowledge I've learned since beginning my nursing program in 2010. I'm sharing this story so that other nursing students can be better prepared when choosing a school. Do your homework so you don't have to withdraw 4 weeks prior to graduation. Read More...

Plagerizing yourself?

Before going to nursing school I had a previous degree in a similar field. I was wondering if you can use a paper you wrote from a previous class and use it in a nursing school class. The paper I wrote that I want to use is online, so a plagiarism checker would definitely be able to find it. Keep in mind the paper that's online would have my name on it, so its obviously mine and I'm not stealing it from the internet. What do you think about re-using a paper? Read More...

Let's take a moment to be positive

I will be starting a BSN program this fall. I see all these horror stories about nursing school on here. How it is horrible. How it is the worst thing in the world. How it basically mimics hell itself. I understand that it is information overload and takes up a great deal of time. I know it will be stressful and challenging. I would like to hear something people actually enjoyed in nursing school. Does anyone have anything positive to say about nursing school?! Read More...

Refusing the Influenza Vaccine

This may have already been talked about... so I apologize. I tried searching for a similar thread, but couldn't find one. I received my acceptance letter yesterday, with a date of June 1st to complete my health related requirements (i.e., vaccines, medical insurance, etc.). One of the requirements posted on the paperwork is the annual Influenza vaccine. I don't want the vaccine, and have no intention of getting it... Read More...

Experienced Student Nurses...advice?

I am one of many new Fall 2012 nursing students who is just dying for summer to be over to begin nursing school! Anyway, I was thinking about refreshing myself on some Anatomy and Physiology over the summer to keep me busy and curb some of my anxiousness. I am just wondering if there is any area I could focus on more than others, or should I just take a look at it all? I know it's going to be one of the harder nursing classes/semesters to weed out the unsure students, so I just want to be refreshed and prepared. Any other tips for preparation before beginning school? Read More...

Strategies for Dressing a Stroke Patient

I'm a 4th quarter nursing student, and we are required to give AM care to our patients. My patient is overweight and previously had a stroke which left her left side weak and immovable.

I'm having a really hard time putting her shirt on without it getting bunched up in her armpit. Since her shirts don't fit too well it's really hard to unbunch it. I always put her head in first, then her affected arm.

Are there any good solutions or tricks for putting her shirt on without it getting stuck?? Read More...

Vaccinations for school...how soon to start them?

I know I will need vaccines for school. I hate that I have to get them, but anyway, I've never had chicken pox nor been vaccinated for it and I'm probably even due for another tetanus shot. So I'm probably gonna need everything in the book. So my question is, how far ahead of time do I need to get my vaccines started? Read More...

What am I doing wrong when studying?

I have yet another test Monday and I've been sitting here for hours going over lectures, nclex questions, notes etc... I'm going crazy with information overload 80 powerpoints on respiratory integrity and only 14 questions on the test? They include an A&P review at the begining of the lecture. I have 7 different lectures like this to study from. I feel hopeless and feel like giving up. I just looked at over 200 pages of slides of powerpoints and cried i'm so frustrated. My test is on bowel elimination, ostomies, enteral feedings, advanced wound care, bladder integrity, respiratory and long term care. Why do they add so much info during lectures that is unecessary?
