am a nurse in LTC and have had to deal with abuse (verbal, emotional) harassment from a patient for quite awhile now. Management knows this is going on as they have been informed repeatedly and there is documentation to support it. After all this time, things have come to a head and I refuse to put up with this be ha vi our anymore. Supposedly psych is to come in to consult re meds. None up to this point, why would they start taking them now??

I'm curious to how other nicus access their central lines. Do you use sterile technique with hat, mask and sterile gloves? Do you clean the port with betadine and then access? What is your infection rate?
I have about 1 year experience in a medical/surgical ICU and I am looking to change hospitals for various reasons. I actually applied to both Cedars and USC and believe it or not, I actually got interviews with both. I am applying for the Neuro ICU at USC and the Surgical/Trauma/Transplant ICU at Cedars. I want to get the best experience possible to advance my nursing practice and broaden my ICU critical thinking skills. I have seen both units at my interviews and they are both amazing. I eventually want to go to CRNA school after I get a few more years of ICU experience. So my question is, which hospital/floor do you think would be better experience to both learn more and prepare for CRNA school?
Nurses are always prepared for everything!

I'm certain that this has been done before, and gets done quite a bit on this forum itself, but what do ya'all tell people who ask you about becoming a RN?
Firstly -- do you get asked this? (I do, both IRL and on different internet forums.)
Do you feel that your employment status or lack thereof has any relationship to the advice that you give?
Would you give different advice to, say, a high school student who wanted to become a RN vs. an established second-career type?
Does the economy play any part in the advice that you give?
Would you give different advice to someone who approached you in real life versus someone who posted something on AN?
I have a insurance that really stinks. I was calling to see if my OB/GYN was in network. They told me if they were, it would be a specialist co-pay of $50. What? and OB/GYN is not a specialist. Any health insurance I have ever had always excluded an OB/GYN form the specialist category. A woman must see their GYN. Must. She went on to compare it to seeing a podiatrist! I wanted to jump into the phone and smack her silly.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) now recommends the routine vaccination of both males and females against human papillomavirus (HPV), according to a policy statement published online Feb. 27 in Pediatrics.
Several of us who have gone back to school to become NPs have encountered a lot of animosity from some fellow nurses. We get remarks like, "You think you're better than us?" The other night at work, several of the nurses were complaining that they didn't think they should have to take orders from NPs because, "they're just nurses like me, they're not doctors." Recently one of our nurses had surgery and proclaimed that she didn't want, "some NURSE" (i.e. CRNA) doing her anesthesia, she demanded a doctor...
If you got your ADN through Excelsior and then went on to a NP program and graduated, will the state you are applying for a NP license care about your RN from Excelsior? For example, California does not currently accept RNs who graduated from Excelsior, but would they accept that same RN who graduated from a NP program and applied for NP licensure?
I'm looking into online ANP & ACNP programs. If you a current student or recent graduate and are interested in telling me how great/not so great your school is, please answer the following questions...
