What do you think about Shared Goverance in hospital settings? Has anyone attempted to try Shared Goverance at their hosptial? Does it work or is it just a way to keep nurses from forming unions?
Nursing recognized as a profession has gained it awareness in our current culture somewhat piggybacking off the Women's Right movement. Even though many nurses are now male, the stigma associated with nursing has its roots attached to a time when women, whom comprised nursing, were thought of as hysterical, at worst, and not equal to a man, at best. Doctors by contrast, predominantly male, has commanded respect and paid well for that respect for years.
When an outbreak of any kind is declared, what generally happens?
I'm so sick and tired of constantly having the threat of MDROs or C.diff dinned in our (nurses) ears when no one else seems to care. It's always "Nurses, make sure you gown up and wash your hands!" and "Nurses, make sure you swab all your patients and send them to the lab before 2pm!" Meanwhile, visitors blatantly show disregard for their PPE, doctors don't wear PPE, housekeeping staff don't do follow proper cleaning procedures...the list goes on! We have reported certain individuals for not following isolation precautions but we still catch people breaking the rules. It's so, so frustrating.
Nurses, we've all had rough shift, and I'm sure you can relate...

I was on my unit as a visitor with my grandfather. In a near code situation with another patient, I helped a colleague by bringing her a supply she couldn't find in the room. Now, as I think about it more, I am totally. freaking. out. Did I do something totally inappropriate/unprofessional/maybe illegal? I would never provide direct patient care when off the clock or out of uniform, but what about bringing a colleague something she needed. I knew where it was and it was easier/faster/more efficient during this dangerous situation for me to just go get it for her. Thoughts?
Please tell me what kind of work shoes are the best. I am in desperate need of a comfortable supportive shoe.

This is my first time on this board and I was wondering if anyone can give me a few pointers for an upcoming interview I have.
The position is for the Director of Care (Health and Wellness) at a upscale retirement facility. Although I have little experience in a position exactly like this one, I do have several years of community health behind me including clinic and ltc experience as well as some acute care, including managing the clinic where I currently work.
Can anyone give me some feedback as to what kinds of qualities they are going to be looking for in an applicant?
First off, I must give a big thank you everyone here: Without everyone here, I am sure I would be posting about taking the NCLEX for the second time! Now onto getting my first job...
I have been applying for a job since December 10th, 2011. I had two interviews. Unfortunately, I didn't get any job offers. How do I go about finding a job? I have been applying for other positions that I want but have not heard from anyone. Here are some of my concerns...
