Difficult diabetics present some of the biggest challenges in health care today. Many docs and nurses dislike this population and view them as "problem children." What they don't realize is that patients need time to process their feelings about the diagnosis, and when they don't get that time, they can easily see the professionals as the enemy.
In the race to snag more patients, corporate bigwigs sometimes come up with cheesy magic tricks designed to make their facility look better than the competition. But does this mindset work? And if so, at what cost?
Nurse Colleague / Patient Relations
I have worked 29 years as an RN and am now retired due to a medical issue. How do I adapt? I so miss the giving of care, the day to day emergencies, the (yes) charting. Nursing was so much a part of my sole, my being. The first 18 years in peri-natal, the last 11 years in Alzheimer's - dementia and geriatrics. Two years ago I was one of the 25% to survive a ruptured brain aneurysm...

Patients without Medicaid or any other insurance, with ambulatory care-sensitive conditions (ACSCs) or non-ACSCs, have shorter lengths of stay in hospitals than patients with insurance, according to a study published in the November/December issue of the Annals of Family Medicine.
Nursing Career Advice
I am a newly graduated RN from NY. I was just wandering to know what professional nursing organization would be great for me to join? I am interested in joining organizations that would help me get updated about latest nursing publictions, would help me participate in various events that would help me enhace my skills/ knowledge etc and more social networking/ seminars/ social work...etc?
I've been working in acute care for about a year and a half, 6 months of that being med/surg, 1 year being telemetry/step-down. I told myself I would stick my current job out at least 2 years to gain a litte more experience and better qualify me for something else in the future, but I've been feeling so burnt out and on-edge (for a while now) that all I can think of is getting out now. I keep teetering on the thought of home health, although I don't know if that's consistent with my long-term goals in nursing(I'm currently ASN, planning on taking classes for BSN soon).
Nursing Student
I am an upcoming nursing student that just got accepted into the full time R.N. program for spring 2012. I'm super excited but nervous at the same time.
I have heard that nursing school is difficult so I want to make sure that I'm as prepared as possible. I finished all of my pre-reqs about 3 years ago, so naturally, I have forgotten a lot of the content. For the core nursing classes, will I need to brush up on my Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc? Also, would it be a good idea to study medical terms as well? Any feedback will be much appreciated.
I had my first clinical last Friday and I need some help on my care plan. My diagnoses is Alteration in safety r/t risk for falls. Can someone describe me the "outcome criteria"? I'm having trouble trying to figure out what I'm suppose to put down for that....I could be over analyzing that section...I tend to do that a lot.
