Critical Care Nursing
We are soon to be moving into a brand new, technology overloaded unit. One thing that every room will have is a video camera pointed directly at the patient bed. The "purpose" of the cameras is supposed to be able to go back and review events leading to an Event ie code, rapid deploy to ECMO, etc.
So, wondering if any other units anywhere use a system like this...what you like/dislike about it. Also how would you, the adult patient, feel being videotaped the entirety of your ICU stay whether you were an up and about "walkie talkie" or sedated post op?
NICU Nursing
I have a job interview in a LEVEL 3 Nicu at my current hospital and I am EXCITED but Terrified!!! IF anyone can give any interview pointers, common questions asked, and any particular Things I should ask the Nurse Manager it would be Extremely Helpful. I currently work with Adults on a Telemetry Unit, however NICU has always Been my Dream. Should there be anything I should be studying to prepare? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone out there interested in sharing ideas of what they have or what they would want regarding the "Entery" to their NICU. We will be having our area redone within the next year I guess. Just looking for what other areas have. Our space is shared with the PICU families. Part of what we need is better security. Give me you're ideas and your dreams!!
Clinical News
The prevalence of retinopathy in adolescents with type 1 diabetes decreased significantly from 1990 to 2009, according to a study published in the November issue of Diabetes Care.
Nurse Practitioner
I'm looking into becoming a mid-level practitioner (NP or PA). Can a NP or PA provide emotional support to patients? How so? For example, are they able to take time to spend with patients who are going through a rough round of chemo, or take time to reassure/inform patients who are worried about an upcoming surgery? Other?
Geriatric Nurses
I just got transferred to our dementia care unit and we are trying to change the way the system works in that area. I am the new dementia care coordinator and I will be supervising the CNAs. The administrator and health services director would like to change the culture and get the CNAs more involved...
I would like to put together some kind of documentation form for the CNAs that they would fill out at the end of their shift ... What choices are most appropriate? Does anyone have a form already put together that can send me in the right direction?
Cardiac Nursing
About 3 weeks ago I accepted a job working in in Progressive Care Unit in a Heart Hospital and have began training on the floor with a preceptor. It is a CRAZY unit with very sick people...a bit overwhelming. I have begun to question whether or not I am going to make it. I have always been an over achiever, graduated in the top of my class in school, married, kids to take care ... I have always managed well. I know that if I put my mind to it I can do it, but I am completely overwhelmed by everything right now. I will get 12 weeks of orientation. Any advice or pep talks would be greatly appreciated!!
