Nursing Career Advice

Looking for a new career direction

I've been a nurse-midwife for many years, and am ready for an entirely new career direction within nursing, outside a hospital setting. Any suggestions for great, unusual nursing jobs? My past experience has also included HIV nursing here and in Africa, research, home health, and early intervention (kids 0-3). The part of nursing that I like most is patient education and empowerment, as well as working with families. I'm a strong writer and I like continually learning new things. Have you had a great nursing job that I should consider?

One Peds Dose of H1N1 Vaccine Prevents Child Hospitalizations

A single pediatric dose of the AS03-adjuvanted vaccine against pandemic influenza A/H1N1 (pH1N1) in children aged 6 months to 9 years confers substantial protection against influenza-related hospitalization beginning 10 days after vaccination, according to a study published online Oct. 10 in Pediatrics.

How To Spot a Workplace Bully, Part One

Having the correct diagnosis for a workplace problem helps with finding the right solution. Over-diagnosing bullying can lead to disciplinary overkill or its flip-side, a devaluation of the actual cases. But applying typical problem-solving and conflict resolution tools can put the target in harm's way. How then, do you identify a bully in the workplace?

Critical Care Nursing

Question about transfusion- PICU

I am in orientation in the PICU coming from NICU (4 years) and I had a really rough assignment the other day which I made some errors. I was infusing 20m/hr of ffp's to my patient. Because I think my brain was going too fast trying to learn everything and trying to help my patient. I mislabeled the ffp's as platelets.

ACLS Experienced Provider Course

Has anyone taken it? What did you think of it? Tips for surviving the exams?

Spoke with my manager this week and he said it's something they'll pay for even though it costs a bit more than a re-certification. Looks like it may be fun, but I've heard from other nurses that they're really brutal in the practicals.

Emergency Nursing

Happy Emergency Nurses Week!

Yes, it's that time of year again ... time for awful gifts, or none at all! Haha. Seriously, thanks for all you do, my fellow ED nurses ... you rock!!
