Nursing Career Advice
I am a nursing student about to enter my senior year in a very rigorous BSN program. I absolutely hated nursing and still had intentions of going to med school in the future (that idea is still in the back of my head), but when I had my "Women's Health" Clinical, I completely fell in love with Labor and Delivery! I never thought I was the "maternal" type, I was (and still am) kind of grossed out by the idea of vaginal exams, and thought I wouldn't be able to handle caring for both mommies and babies, but I saw how great the labor and delivery RNs are, and truly enjoyed the whole experience!! I did some research (found some great info here on allnurses) and learned that L&D is not just happy times playing with babies.
My Girlfriend just got her license and is trying to land her first Nursing job. I am trying to help with the resume and cover letter. I have attached what we've come up with so far. I would appreciate it very much if anyone took a moment to read it and critique. Any glaring errors? Anything we can do to make it better?
I am a college freshmen at Alverno. Today I went to orientation, and we all talked about professionalism, networking, and building resumes for prospective employers. I'm brand new, I don't have any healthcare experience, and I'm still trying to get money to pay for expensive CNA classes. Besides working as a CNA, what activities can I partake in to start building an impressive resume for my nursing career?
Clinical News
Clinicians should assess the appropriateness of contraceptives for women with specific medical conditions or characteristics based on the four categories of medical eligibility defined by the 2010 U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (U.S. MEC), according to a Committee Opinion published in the September issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
In the United States, 97 percent of practicing obstetrician-gynecologists (ob-gyns) encounter patients seeking abortions, but only 14 percent perform abortions, according to a study published in the September issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Nursing Activism
Does anyone know how to start a revolution? I'd like to know because I think our profession is in serious need of a nationwide strike...quite possibly a global one. Of the 4 hospitals I've worked at 3 of them have awful working conditions....and I've worked in 4 hospitals in several states and different cities so I don't just think its the 'region' I'm in. From the horror stories I've read about nursing in the U.K., I guess I should feel lucky to have an 8:1 ratio, no aids, on a post op ortho floor.
Student Nursing
After failing the first exam, I gathered my composure and studied even harder than before. When I found out that I failed the NCLEX exam the second time I became sad and devastated at the same time, and the feeling I had was like the whole world came crumbling down on me. I spoke to my girlfriend about my emotions and I decided to take time off by working for a few months to get the fear and anxiety out of my system. Now that I have faced my demons, I decided to retake the NCLEX examination again this year. I have been studying since July and I will be taking my exam at the end of the first week of October.
Regional Discussion - Wisconsin
I am a freshman at Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI and Nursing is my major. I would really like to become a CNA to start off and get a feel for the hospital environment. The accredited CNA programs are quite expensive, and I don't have the money to pay for it. Are there any programs in Milwaukee that anyone here from Wisconsin knows of that will help me pay for most or all of CNA course tuition? Anyone know of any grants or scholarships I can look into?
