I've been an ADN for 16 years. Recently, I finished my BSN and now am through my first year of a DNP program. Like most students, I struggled with learning to understand a Nursing Diagnosis during my ADN schooling. Since that time the term has cropped up in various situations but usually as a passing comment. It has in no way benefited my practice as a nurse. In fact, when I bring up the subject with colleagues I often get a smirk or an eye-roll!
Why does the nursing profession NOT support LPNs? We're being "phased out", like we're incandescent light bulbs or something. Actually, I've been a hard-working member of the profession for 5 years, and I don't deserve to be treated this way.
We're told we need to get our RN, and even a BSN if we want to work in a hospital, now...but we can't get into a school. Why aren't there any programs that are solely devoted to turning LPNs into RNs? There are enough LPNs, trust me. And phasing us out would go a lot quicker if we were supported in our educational pursuits. And yeah, I would do Excelsior College, but I want to live in California someday, and guess what?

I have worked in Hospice for 29 years. It has changed over time, some for the better, some no so much. Mostly I worked in small community based organizations, but recently moved and was offered a position with a corporate owned Hospice that also owns most of the facilities where our patients are located. Good pay, NO weekends or on call. How could I not accept.
