Stay well and don't get sick!

This is a true account of what happened to a friend of mine when she became sick after having worked at a health care facility for over 3 yrs. It's apprent there is nothing we can do to protect ourselves - all we can do is stay well and not get sick.

Nurses Under 30 Years Old

A friend of mine is a manager who recently went to a management seminar. It was the same old thing until they asked what peoples' biggest problems are. One person said "employees under 30," and everyone in the room agreed. They find this demographic to be needy and entitled (I'm sure this does not apply to everyone, but is a much bigger trend than in past years).

Nurses really aren't the smartest people

A girl made a post about the parenting class she took, where she was given some information regarding breastfeeding that she didn't think was correct. She had asked her mom, who told her something different. So she came on to clarify. One of the other members responds to her to listen to her mother, because nurses really are not the smartest people...

How to deal with constant calls to come into work?!

I work as a CNA/HHA in LTC facility. I also go to school full time, and work another job. I have finally figured out my schedule to where it is some-what tolerable, but still get CONSTANT calls to pick up shifts or to come in to work early. I am talking almost every day. If not every day, at least every other. It stresses me out!

I want to like the job (I've only been there about 2 months), but seriously want to scream each time the phone rings. I can't even enjoy my little time off. I am seriously considering quitting, but don't want it to look bad on my resume, or not have any experience when trying to find a nursing job. How do I deal with the constant calls?

Best makeup for clinicals?

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for an oil-controlling makeup to wear during clinicals? For some reason, my face gets really oily when I'm working. My Dr also recently put me on a new med (CNS Stimulant) which causes me to sweat more than usual (lovely) and unfortunately, most of the sweating occurs around my hairline and on my forehead. I am VERY fair skinned...

Which topics in microbiology are the most useful in nursing?

I'm taking my nursing pre-requisites this semester and next. I have actually already taken microbiology, but it was 7 years ago, and I don't remember much. However, my school still gave me credit for my microbiology class.

Does EVERYTHING you learned in microbiology come back in nursing school?

Should I tell my nursing school about my disorder?

I'm currently in nursing school with two semesters left. I have been diagnosed with Narcolepsy. I have noticed that due to my disorder, I've been late to clinicals a couple of times. I've tried setting my alarm 2 hours before I have to leave but sometimes it just doesn't work.

I'm wondering if I should let my school know that I have this disorder.

Can I be a LPN with a RN license?

I keep seeing job openings for LPNs left and right, some even welcome new grad LPNs. It seems like finding a job as a RN is near impossible now so I was wondering if it would be okay for me to apply for a LPN position. Is this legal in NY State?

I would gladly take the pay cut, as long as I'm still around the nursing field.
