Nursing News
Doctor groups in Colorado are up in arms this week after Gov. Bill Ritter's decision to opt out of a federal Medicare rule by allowing qualified nurses at rural hospitals throughout the state to administer anesthesia without a doctor present. Both the Colorado Society of Anesthesiologists and the Colorado Medical Society are suing the state in an attempt to reverse what CSA spokesperson Dr. Randall Clark calls "an unnecessary lowering of the standard of care in hospitals"

Referring young, newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to a reproductive specialist before surgery may speed up fertility preservation (FP) procedures and allow time for two cycles of ovarian stimulation (OS) between surgery and initiation of chemotherapy, according to research published online Sept. 27 in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Ok folks, I'm just about ready to lose it and I know it's a little silly..or it may seem petty...but just take my feelings into consideration.
I am SICK to DEATH of SOME Medical Assistants, CNAs, and Respiratory Therapists (etc.) calling themselves NURSES, or allowing themselves to be called nurses...or saying that they are getting their "RN". Are you KIDDING ME?
I feel we could do without the nursing diagnosis. I understand they can help a student group and rank interventions for a disease process (dare I say that?), but there are better ways to help a student understand this concept. I am not against throwing out holistic nursing practices, but we really could do without the fluff. Why is it that many new grads can't "put it together" Maybe, because fluff doesn't cross over into real-world nursing practice?
Hi. I worked on this case for 5 months with a 7 month old baby who just passed. I was doing private duty nursing for the baby. My agency gave me the service times and everything, but I was just wondering would it be appropiate? I was attached to the child very much. If it isn't appropiate to attend the funeral what other things could I do to show condolences?

Just recently I passed the board exam and I'm happy to announce that finally I am BSN/RN!!!!It's been two years since I graduated from nursing school. I took it 8 times but I'm not ashamed of it. So for those who haven't passed yet, I am a living proof that there's a chance and while you're still alive there's hope, okay!
We've had so much contradictory teaching so far. We've been drilled with the RACE acronym, then today we had a test where the correct answer out of the four options within RACE was to pull the alarm. What?? Last time we were tested on this the correct answer was to rescue. Why isn't there any consistency?
I've read several threads where students mention having to write 30 page (or more!) care plans for every clinical. I've gone through LPN school and I'm eight weeks away from finishing RN school...and I've never had to write a care plan that even comes close to being that long I guess I'm just wondering, what in the world is in 30+ page care plan??

Do you know of any law that protects RN's home address from being published on the internet? I've had a patient tell me that they know where I live. I'm in constant contact with pysch patients....sometimes incarcerated inmates come in too. |
