Nursing Humor
I have heard some of the craziest things nurses have done out of force of habit in the "Real World". (aka out of the hospital)
- I've heard that some sign their checks with first initial, last name RN.
- Someone ran to aisle four in the grocery store because of a "code blue! clean up! Code blue!"
- Knocking on the door before entering, any door, your front door.
- Answering your cell phone "Nurses station"
- Admiring someones veins.
- Holding your invisible steth when leaning over.
- Wheres the weirdest place you've fallen asleep?

Female survivors of childhood cancer treated with pelvic radiation have a much higher risk of stillbirth and neonatal death in their offspring than do females who did not get radiation, but there is no increased risk for male survivors who received gonadal radiation, according to research published online July 23 in the The Lancet.

It's getting to be that I can't watch any type of medical drama. Grey's Anatomy, ER reruns, those true tales of the ER. Not only do I get that stuff at work, but the stupid medical errors make me scream and holler and generally annoy everyone around me. But you can't escape it with even regular TV. The Office confused an MRI with a CT and Thirtysomething had a doc ask a hospital patient if she'd urinated yet, despite her foley hanging on the bed. And, oh yeah, the foley was bone dry.
I know I'm probably a masochist but I have been wondering for a while if I could still pass NCLEX after 25+ years out of school. There are so many threads about how hard it is to pass - I didn't think it was that tough when I took it 25 years ago. Does anyone know if you can "audit" NCLEX? God!- what if I took it again and failed - wouldn't they have to take my licence?! Great, now that I've posted this, I'm going to have nightmares about NCLEX for the next week!
One time the charge nurse asked me to turn this patient who was comatose and could not close his eyes.
He had no curtain and the sun was glaring in. I told her, "I did not turn him because the sun is in his eyes...." She agreed with me.
Later on in another nursing home, I found a stroke patient who could not move and who was postitioned with the sun burning her eyes out...

I have been planning to go to nursing school (direct entry MSN) & have been progressing in that direction. The other day I was having a conversation with a coworker (a non-practicing nurse!) and she said, now at 40 you have maybe 20 years of nursing, but if a younger candidate gets your seat they can practice nursing for like 40 years, so why should you get a seat? It's more beneficial to train a younger nurse...
I have been a member on Allnurses.com for several years now and was constantly active on the Random Facts Sticky when it first started back in the summer of 2007. I learned alot from that thread and am so grateful for the oppurtunity to have contributed to it!
I'm so excited for school to start! So I thought it would be cool to see what everyone is taking. I'm sure many of us have some of the same classes!

Aloha, my name is Tracey. I have been a nurse for 18 years and recently decided I wanted to work in paradice (to have the "working" retirement everyone dreams of). I ran into difficulties getting a job while still on the main land so I moved over before my family to obtain employment. Does any one have any resources, contacts or leads that you are willing to forward to me?
