OK, I know I may make myself sound like a B here, and maybe I need a vacation, but here lately, the families at work are about to drive me (and everyone else) insane. It's like there's been an epidemic of dumb---, and we caught the brunt. I don't deal well with stupidity, and some of these folks seem to have it in spades.
As a nursing student who is working extremely hard to earn the title of "Nurse" I was furious! And if she's wearing a name tag that was issued from her from her place of employment, they should be ashamed for misrepresenting this woman as a nurse to their patients. Isn't this illegal, or at least unethical? Am I just over reacting here?
I swore in front of a patient and a family member today. I lost control of a drain tube I was d/c'ing, and slung some blood onto to the (clean!) linens... and a "s#%t" slipped out. After the dressings and linens got changed I...
Student Discussions
I was just reading a Christian Science Monitor article about the new Student Loan Reform law and noted that:
"Loan payments will be capped at 10 percent of a student's disposable income and any debt remaining after 20 years will be forgiven. For public servants - including teachers, nurses, or members of the armed forces - that cap is 10 years."
I just wanted to share my annoyances ... as the student who didn't have a heads up of what to expect. I wish I was forewarned about the social aspect of nursing school because in reality you would be spending about 2 years with the same people and you are going to have to learn to tolerate them. I have categorized my "annoyances" from most annoying to least annoying, although some people fall in several categories.
On a clinical day my instructor patted me down and searched me looking for my cell phone, which she found, yelled at me for a while then sent me home. I feel violated and humiliated. I want to know my rights as a student and her rights as an instructor (whether or not she can touch or search me). I would like to bring this to the attention of the BRN but don't know how.
Nursing Articles
This for those of you members of allnurses.com who have hinted, believed, insinuated or baldly stated that I don't remember what it's like to be a new grad, that I always thought I knew everything, that I have ever actually known everything or that nurses eat their young. Believe me, if I'm still around after the rough start I had, nurses don't eat their young.
Regional Discussion - California
I sent out an application online exactly a month ago and I haven't heard anything from it yet. Is this a usual time frame? I tried calling them twice already to follow up but never got a return call. I have the experience needed for the job, so i can't understand why they have not responded yet. Job is still available online. I am moving to san diego area in 5 weeks and I don't have a job yet. starting to freak out a lil bit.
