Essential Qualities for Surviving and Thriving as a Nurse Educator by VickyRN

Nursing education is a harmonious blend of two nurturing and caring professions: nursing and teaching. As such, it offers the best of both worlds. It is a pivotal position in that nurse educators have the unique opportunity and wondrous privilege to shape future generations of nurses and impact care of countless patients downstream.

Chocolate Heart by deacon0920

I never intended to be a nurse, not at all but as fate would want to play it I became one. Time flies, it surely does. I have been through numerous med pass, cleansed a lot of wounds, dealt with gore (not really), literally piled up with physician order sheets. If only I could account them probably my list would stretch a mile or two. When I was a student, I had a perception that right after graduation I will be raking dollars in my backyard but to get to where I am right now, a lot of things were done, some of those I need to work hard for, some were given to me easily. Please don't get me wrong, I don't have any room for complaints. I just want to reminisce and justify that where I am now is right where I belong, and this leads me to my story.

Anesthesia: The Last and First Thing You Heard by Tait

Ok little game. There was a thread started by someone having surgery today and someone stated the last and first thing they heard with anesthesia, so I figured it would be a fun little thread!

Did I cause my patient to die faster? by lou_tango

I am a CNA on a medical/surgical floor and am in dire need of clarification (from a nurse please) of what just happened at work last night. I work nights, came on the floor and got to work right away. I got a walking report from the 2nd shift CNA. One pt was an unresponsive very elderly woman who had suffered an acute MI several days earlier and wasn't expected to make it through the night. I was told in report by the CNA that the pt was being turned side to side every 2 hours (with oral care, checking for incontinence, etc.) and she was due again at 11:30, so I had him help me change her and turn her before he left. She passed less than an hour later. Here's where I need some help...

How much is school costing you? by tbell2

I am going to a community college in the suburbs of Chicago. Total (pre-reqs and nursing classes, plus childcare) it will cost me about $20,000. I am including the childcare because it is more than half. Just for classes and books would be about $7000. But since I have three kids who are not yet school aged, I have to have daycare while I am in class. It would be 4x more expensive to have them at a daycare center, so I am lucky to have someone come to my house to watch them.

Question about Concealed Weapons Carry by sambo23

OK, there probably haven't been many questions on this topic before, but I do have a legitimate concern.

I'm currently in school for my pre-reqs to become a nurse, and I am looking into getting my concealed weapons permit. Do you think there is any reason to believe that having this permit will affect my ability to get into nursing school, or to become a licensed RN once I'm done?

I respect all personal views about having a concealed carry permit, but I would appreciate if responses could be geared only towards how this may affect one's career as a nurse.
