Blogs
If you read my blog on even a semi-regular basis, you've probably figured out that I'm a fan of lists. This one was inspired by a little game that one of my co-workers started on Facebook a couple of weeks ago as a lead-in to Thanksgiving Day. It's actually rather addictive; in fact, some of us have been posting each day about something we are thankful for, even if it's as mundane as food and shelter, or as exotic as one's recent missionary trip to Africa. So here are a few things I, as a nurse, feel incredibly blessed to have... read more

Dear preceptor.. I came to you smiling, full of energy and ready to tackle the last leg of my orientation journey, with your guidance of course. I haven't really gotten any inclination on where that guidance is at. You tell me what patients to take, and I take them. Then when I am at the bedside, communicating with the family (you know that rapport thing?), you decide that it is a great time to tell me *not to touch the patient*, or the machines for that matter unless you are there. I have many coworkers that are my friends on Facebook. The site has their picture, full name and place of work. They'll post negative comments about patients in general or criticize their place of employment. I realize someone can have their profile hidden; however, nothing is really hidden online. Why incriminate and play career suicide? Has anyone else noticed this trend? Know anyone fired for facebook posts or comments? read more
So I'm looking through the posts and I am reminded of my first day in nursing school. I was looking forward to doing injections and learning about meds. What I feared was that I would never learn to take BPs. You pump up the cuff and let it deflate? How is that supposed to tell you anything? I just couldn't wrap my brain around it. What are you supposed to do with all the numbers? Share your stories. What did you fear before starting school? read more
Student Discussions
So me and my clinical friends were sitting around and lunch, talking about the program and we started asking ourselves about students who cry all the time. We had heard, from nurses on our floor that, that students before us have been found in the clean utility rooms balling their eyes out but no one in our group has even come close. Anxiety yes... uncertainty yes... but we have never come near crying? read more

Just a quick question. Are you able to take out a private loan after the school year has started? Being unemployed its beginning to get a bit difficult to pay for daycare (soon to be preschool) and for transportation costs. My aunt is willing to cosign on a private loan, but I am unsure as to whether or not I could even do it since the semester is almost over. Does anyone know how these work? read more
