Red. Pink. Purple. Green. Yellow. Many of these shades I had already seen in my clinicals. Whether it was from vomit, blood, or the precarious hospital lunches, I always came across some primary’s shade. However, I was continuously bereft of my own color. Black. Why didn’t I see anyone like me? read more
The purity of water can bring wonders to a parched soul, a dirty wound, a needy plant. I happen to know of a way in which water can bring solace to the heaviest of hearts and even the most entangled minds. I met him during my Psychiatry clinical and he happened to be a regular on the unit. I didn’t see much in him at first and actually thought he was a family relative of a patient. Because I'd be willing to swear that this is the year 2009. The reason I ask is, yesterday, I went to my MIL's house with hubby (Oh, JOY!), and we had lunch. I was in the kitchen, helping cook, and my grandmother in law, who I love comes in. My MIL was explaining (ad nauseum) how to prepare steak and gravy (dis-GUST), since it is one of hubby's favorites. I don't touch red meat, have never eaten a hamburger, so there's no way I'd know how to fix that. read more

Hi, I am a new nursing student. It is barely my second week of the program and I don't feel so enthusiastic. I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. I feel like I don't know what I should know. I also feel like I won't be able to learn everything I am required to learn. I don't know if what I'm feeling is normal or not? Did any of you nurses feel this way when you started out? These thoughts are leading me to think maybe nursing is not for me, although, I do want to become one. Please help me out! read more

I'm currently in the LPN-RN program and I have these reoccurring nightmares of graduating, being hired, excited about my first day as an RN and then realizing that I have no support system, no one is going to help me and may even hate that I'm on their unit. I've worked some as an LPN, but mainly to gain my mandatory 500 hours for applying to the LPN to RN program so I would really love to find out if anyone has any suggestions on what hospitals are good for new nurse graduates? read more
