Eleven Things Your Nurse Thinks (But Will Never Tell You)

by VivaLasViejas

Since I've presented my top 10 list of the things I love about nursing, it's time now for a visit to the darker side. Here are some decidedly UN-lovely thoughts I've entertained from time to time:

1) If you yell "HELP!" one. more. time. without a really, really, REALLY good reason for it, I am going to come down there, shut the door, and give you a good dose of pillow therapy... read more

Thank-you Son

by LaughingStudent

So I have finally come to the end of a grueling 4 year BSN program, and likely won't be valedictorian, nor will have an opportunity to stand up and make a toast, so I figure that this a place where I can take the podium and speak. Son, We made it! I know that there are going to be people that try to correct me on that statement, "We" didn't do it..., "I" did it. They are wrong. read more

A Day In the Life of a New Grad

by E Non Imus, RN

6:30 a.m. I wake up, roll over, and look at alarm clock. There is absolutely no reason to be up this early, but sleeping habits have always been rough for me. I had the dream again where I’m at my graduation ceremony. It clings to my mind as I try to roll out of bed like a cobweb I walked through in a dusty, dusky barn. read more

So how often do nurses have sex in the hospital?

by curiousstudent5

I read on the forum that while it's forbidden for a nurse to have sex with their patient, I haven't seen anything about having sex with other nurses, doctors, visitors, etc. Does it actually happen as often as it does on TV shows? Not asking whether it's wrong or not, just whether it happens. read more

Everyone getting prepared for the NCLEX-PN...I have an idea! Let's use this thread to start our own study group. We can share random information, advice, work on questions, etc. I was looking at the "anyone up for random fact throwing?" thread and that has a lot of great info but it seemed more geared towards RNs, so I thought..lets do one for PNs!! read more

How much do CNA's make these days and is the pay worth the workload?

by Lala27poodles

Now I know it will be hard work, that I am prepared for... However, since I have been interested in becoming a CNA while going through nursing school I have heard everything from positive experiences to horror stories. One girl told me CNA's basically deal with the nastiest aspects of nursing and for the lowest pay. She told me I would be changing adult diapars all day for $7/hr. read more

Anyone work at SHPS or Humana?

by annienur

Anyone currently working for SHPS or Humana? I am interested in applying for one of their jobs and would like some general info on the types of positions they have, what the company environment is like, career-tracks, etc. I don't think bed-side nursing is ever going to be for me and I'm researching other areas I can pursue as a career utilizing my nursing knowledge. I am also considering Home Health, MRDD, but am really leaning toward something totally away from patient care. read more
