How Will Universal Health Care Change Nursing?

by arelle68

How will universal health care change the Nursing profession? Will we finally get ratios? Will our pay go up, or down? What about benefits? Will the quality of care improve, slide, or stay the same? How would a "single-payer" system be structured? Would this be the end of the insurance industry as we know it? I would like to hear from everyone who has an opinion about any of these questions.

Things you'd LOVE to tell the doc and get away with it....

by nerdtonurse?

I was reading other threads and I came across students who were accepted to private nursing schools but declined their acceptance because of the tuition. If Yes, I am going to report you when you take the packing out of an abdominal wound with your bare hands, despite me waving gloves in front of your face. That's what the risk management software's for. BTW, did you not see the big isolation gear on the door? Pt. has hx. of MRSA in the wound, and you just stirred in it barehanded....

My frustration with inconsiderate classmates

by Two Sheds

We were in NUR 105 (Pharm) and the professor said at least 5 times "Put your phones on silent! Better yet, turn it off or leave it in the car!" (I leave mine in the car--always. Again, he stressed this MANY, MANY times. Sure enough, 5 minutes later, this gal's phone went off down in her purse. She didn't even have the gall to look embarrassed! She just looked at the screen to see who was calling, then casually turned it off. We were all flabbergasted at her lack of concern--I would've died a thousand deaths of embarrassment!!!!

Nursing instructor that reads powerpoint word for word

by mwdw04

My nursing instructor reads the powerpoint word for word and she does it really really fast. If you have a question about something she just reads the sentence again and ask "Do you understand now?" I get so BORED and so SLEEPY. I feel like we are in college we don't need somebody to read to us. There are several in the class failing because they don't understand and she doesn't know how to explain it. What should we do? She is a very nice lady and I wouldn't want to hurt her feelings in anyway.......but this is killing everyone in the class! Any advice?

Am I Nurse Material?

by RN hopefull

My mom is telling me that nursing is not for me. She says that its hard work. She doesn't believe I will succeed at getting accepted to charity. She also mentioned I was not nursing material. And because I have 2 daughters, she believes I won't be able to do it.

I never thought I would hear this from my mom. I am so hurt by her words and lack of faith for me. How do you guys know for sure you have what it takes to be a nurse? I am starting to believe maybe she is right.
