Job competition between student nurses

Hi I'm a new member that is graduating this May, and I've been lurking here on allnurses for three years. I wanted to know how others are handling the backstabbing and horrible competition between students over jobs. I used to love my classmates but now I can't stand any of them because it's become very divisive... Read More...

New Student Nurse Advice

I recently got accepted into The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Nursing School and I will be beginning in the Fall, 2012. I was wondering if you could offer me some advice on what to expect in nursing school, some books that will help me adjust to nursing school, and just some basic tips on just how to survive it. I am very anxious about nursing and just would like to do my best. Read More...

Is a BSN mostly theory/lecture? Difference from ADN?

My instructor told us that as ADN, we will come out with really great tech skills and someone posted on here that nurses tend to prefer ADN to BSN students because we were more willing to get our hands dirty.

For those of you that have gotten a BSN, how were the classes structured? Was there more lecture time or more clinical time? Also, since we all sit for the same NCLEX, do you think there is anything greatly different between ADN and BSN? Read More...

What is an acceptable drop-out rate?

I am applying to several schools for nursing and i came across a private college that offers an ASN in 21 months. However, this program was only accredited last year and they have a 80 percent drop out rate. Yeah, 80 percent. 5 out of 25 initial students walked off to graduate. Is that unusual for a new program? If you were in my shoes, would you even consider such a college? Read More...

Precautions and Medication Administration

I know we're supposed to gown, mask and glove using appropriate equiptment like the N95 for airborne precautions...AND I know we're supposed to do the three checks of medication administration - including the third and final check at the patient's bedside. So, can someone explain to me what to do if the patient is on precautions and I need to give them medication? I shouldn't bring the MAR into the room of a patient on precautions > standard, should I? How do I perform the third check under these circumstances? Read More...

Use of Stem Cells, Conditioning Induces Immune Tolerance

A novel approach using a bioengineered mobilized cellular product enriched with hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and tolerogenic graft facilitating cells (FCs) in combination with nonmyeloablative conditioning is safe and practical for inducing immune tolerance after transplantation, according to a study published in the March 7 issue of Science Translational Medicine. Excelsior LPN to RN

I was wondering if anyone is currently taking the Excelsior LPN to RN ... and how goes it??!! I'm not sure of this program, but I thought I would bite the bullet & try to pass the 1st of the 7 exams required.

I am also wondering why it is that you do not have to enroll to take the 1st two exams - Health Safety & Transition? Are they easier than the 5 remaining exams, and is this their way of getting you to take the worm? Or, are they harder than the 5 remaining exams - which would "weed out" the serious from those who aren't... Read More...

This is how I prepared for my NCLEX-RN Exam

First of all, thank you so much for all your support and prayers. I will keep you posted. I tried it again last night and this morning and yet it still on hold. But I'm keeping the Faith. I'm trying to relax myself now, I think I deserve it. LOL Anyway, here's how I reviewed... Read More...
