First day of CNA clinical - Elder abuse?

Good afternoon everyone. I just need some perspective on what I witnessed today to see if I can expect to see this kind of thing everywhere. I'm not sure if I can handle it. This is going to be kind of long but I really just need to describe my first clinical experience to someone. Read More...

[Poll] Nursing Student but interested in being a CNA/PCA for a Summer Job

I am a 28 year old male nursing student at Capital Community College in Hartford, CT. I'm going to graduate next May (2013). I currently live at home & do NOT work but I would like to work during the Summer time in order to save money. I was considering becoming a CNA. I understand that I can't just take the exam & that you need to be present for x amount of classroom & clinical hours. Is a PCA the same thing? How do you become a PCA? Which one is better? Is being a CNA beneficial?

I am just wondering...what are the benefits of being a CNA? I got my CNA license about 5 years ago, and got another job doing home health kind of stuff with mentally handicapped and my CNA license is now expired. I have since taken my nursing courses required to get a CNA license and only need to sit in on the test, but am debating on whether I should. Would it be good experience for a soon to be nurse, or would it just be a waste of time... Read More...

I need help with prioritization.

If anybody can give me a few suggestions, I would appreciate it. I have a care plan due, and I have to come up with 3-5 nursing diagnosis based on my patients problem list. I really struggle with this. I have struggled with care plans from day one. I have some ideas, but because I stink at it, I can't, for the life of me, figure out what I should pick. Below is my patients problem list... Read More...

How To Do Cool Stuff In Clinical

I'm a new nurse but I'm already working with a lot of EMT and nursing students at work. I remember hating some days and rotations in school because I couldn't figure out how to find stuff to do, or I never got to see the cool stuff. Here's some tips from the other side... Read More...

Tuition Reimbursement to get a BSN &Continuing Education question!

I've heard a few people say, "Wait until you get your ADN and get a job before you go back to school to get your BSN." I was just wondering how easy it is to find hospitals or other health care instituions that are willing to reimburse you (full or partial) for furthering your education. Read More...

Work Fulltime + education benefits or take scholarship and not work?

I have the opportunity to get school paid for (with nothing left over) and my salary paid (minus differentials) and I don't have to work. Not having to work is great, but the problem is financial. I'd be losing about $500-$600 a month take home from not having differential pay, and the GI bill I get ($2000), it covers both my tuition and my son's tuition + books for both of us.

So do I take the ability to not have to work during nursing school and loose $1600 month take home or do I keep plugging away like I am, working fulltime and going to school fulltime? Read More...
