Yayyyy! I've been accepted into nursing school.

I got accepted into my FIRST choice! I am sooooo blessed, grateful, relieved, and insanely happy! It feels beyond amazing to have what I worked so hard for. I remember when it was 2011 and I was working so hard to make the best grades. It's 2013 now and the time has flown. I can't believe this. No matter what, don't ever doubt or lose faith in yourself!!!! You WILL get in and make it!! This is only the beginning!!!!!! Ahhhhh! Read More...

Working and nursing school?

I just got accepted to nursing school for August, I am super excited to start this new stage in life. However, I have been told over and over that working is not a good idea during school. I live in an apartment in my parents basement so I am rent free. But I have a car payment, have to buy my own food, pay for my own gas and have one credit card bill for credit building. I am working full time right now and plan on saving as much I can until school. When I get in school I am able to work at the hospital towards tuition reimbursement.  So I'm just wondering what is normally too many hours to work. I was hoping I could handle 20 hours and school. Any suggestions? Read More

Human Cadavers

I almost passed out from excitement today when my A&P teacher said we'd have an optional opportunity to explore a flash frozen human cadaver!! I thought I'd only experience this if I chose medical school! Anyways, I am obviously so excited. Professor will be doing the dissection of abdomen and thoracic cavity and then we get to go in and explore, hold organs, move stuff around. Anyone else ever gotten to do this? Read More...

Struggling to meet the bare minimum in one class...need support

I'm doing good so far in every class but ONE. The crazy thing is that the class is really not that hard but for some reason I keep changing my answer to the wrong one, which results in me receiving an overall lower grade than what i should have gotten. Everyone else in the class is passing but me. I received two mid 60s on the first two exams. The next couple I will need an 85 or higher to meet the bare minimum in order to pass. I am very stressed out and cannot afford to retake this class over. I am under a lot of pressure from my family to pass. I know there is nothing you all can do I just need some support. I talked about this with one of my classmates but she didn't seem to care at all. Read More...

How far do you commute to school?

There isn't any recent threads on the topic, so I thought I would start a new one. I will be moving and the nursing school I want to go to is 2hrs and 45 mins away. I looked at other nursing schools close by and each and every one is different for pre req reqirements. Just wanted to see how many others commute is this long. How do you pass the time when driving? EVERYONE wants to be a Nurse/feeling overwhelmed

I don't want to sound cliche but, becoming the nurse is and has always been my "Dream". Just like my sister has always had a thing for make up and teaching. I'm finishing my pre-requisites for a BSN and we had introductions in our class ... out of 15 introductions given 8 people on my same class ... are ALL finishing their pre-requistes for Nursing. I know this field is competitive, But actually seeing those statistics is scary ... seems to me like it might be a tough case reaching final outcome to "BE a Nurse". What do you'll think, are you still looking for a job, are you not able to get admited in Nursing programs ? What is your frustration? Read More...

NCLEX NCLEX NCLEX worth a read!

I have been on such a journey as all of you have been. Today I took my nclex.. 2/11/13. My computer shut down at 92 questions..I sat there for a good minute in disbelief..that is it? It is OVER? I took my LPN boards 2 years ago..shut down at 85. For some reason I couldn't remember the exam being as stressful to prepare as this one was. I did the PVT trick and got this so called "good pop up"..I hope it works..if not I still want to tell everyone/anyone how I studied... Read More...

You're so smart, you should be a doctor.

Anyone ever said this to you? Someone told me recently that with my smarts I should go for something "more" like a PA or doctor. I was only too happy to explain, in a very concise manner, why I want to be a nurse. It bothers me that people think nurses aren't as smart as doctors, or that choosing nursing means settling. I guess we just have to prove them wrong. Read More...

First time on website - Question about tuition

I have been thinking about going to this school since my friend just graduated from here and she got the job she wanted. The tuition on the website says $85,000 for the whole 3 years BSN degree. I only qualify for $9,000 a year federal loan. How are you all paying for this expensive school?! Also I live 1.30 hrs away from the college so I'm also worried about all the traveling. How log do u guys have driven? And I really don't wanna take out private loans Read More...

Clinical instructor said I'm too quiet

The other day, my clinical instructor told me I am too quiet and that I should be more assertive. I know she probably told me this for my own good and I should be more assertive, but it made me feel bad. From the way she was telling me it sounded like I am too timid and that I just stand there and watch my preceptor do all skills and I don't do nothing. She also said I needed to have better communication skills with patients and other nurses and to her I seem to be too quiet. Not sure what to do. Is being quiet such a bad thing when trying to be a nurse? Read More...
