"Why do you want to be a nurse anyway? They're doctors skivvies!" This was what a friend of mine said to me while I was at the bookstore buying some books on Nursing. I just laughed it off there and then it hit me ... It has made me so mad that I needed to come straight on here and vent!
I really do not have anything good to say about my current manager or the facility to work for except that I love and will miss my coworkers so I am nervous about any questions that I might be asked about my current employer. Should I act like pollyanna and sugar coat everything or should I be try to honest without "bashing" the facility/manager. I dont want to blow this chance so any advice would be so appreciated especially from hiring managers.
I tried to do some quick research on attempted assaults on nurses, but only found articles related to work-place violence, a related concept, but not what I was looking for. It is my suspicion that it is not uncommon for nurses to be attacked going to and from hospitals at shift change but that it is not reported as such. For the police, it's an assault and would be recorded that way. For the hospital, there is every reason to sweep such incidents under the rug. Does anyone have any anecdotal stories relative to assaults on nurses or know of any research on the topic?

"Would you tell someone who is badly mangled in a auto accident and bleeding to death that you cannot work on them because you are a vegetarian? I would hope not. If so, then you should choose another career."
My professor also called my ethical opposition to animal dissection into question with the following statement:
"I understand being a vegetarian but this assignment does not require you to eat these animal specimens."
I found his message to be inappropriate, offensive, and ridiculous. I would like to obtain some outside perspective and would appreciate any comments you may have about this situation.
A relative of mine thinks it is okay to go to ANY college, the cheaper the better and the quicker the better. He says the degree doesn't really matter so long as it says RN, the college you go to doesn't make a difference so long as it's accredited, and really the grades don't even matter so much so long as you pass with decent ones.
Your teacher is in the classroom giving a final exam. You are allowed to use your cellphone as a calculator. You are using an iPhone and can access the internet. Would you look into Google to find the answer to a question you do not know?

As every nurse who's ever worked long-term care knows, there comes a time each winter when some gnarly virus sweeps through the building and brings it---almost literally---to its knees. It starts off innocently enough: some staff member will inadvertently track in a germ their kids picked up on the playground, or an admission comes from the hospital with bugs on board....but no matter how it begins, the thing will spread throughout the facility faster than a rumor and sicken residents and staff alike.

I just thought it would be helpful to all of us new grads who are searching for jobs to get some tips from those who were able to land job offers since it is so tough out there right now. What tips can you guys provide? What do you think set you apart from the other hundreds of applicants? Did you have a high GPA? Did you have work experience as a nurse assistant or LPN? Did you volunteer? I'm sure any tips and advice would be helpful to us job searchers out there!
