NCLEX Studying

This is my last resort as an outlet to the frustration that I am having. I wish someone would have stressed how important it was while I was in nursing to school to study for the NCLEX and to take it before school was over.

So now almost a year out of school and I am still just a graduate nurse. Like many people I need a JOB and so as soon as I finished school I studied for a while, thinking I was prepared for the test, and didn't pass. But let me say I was stressed beyond belief. I think all odds were against me in the moment when I took my test. Read More...

What did you learn in clinicals?!

I was taught how to give an Intraosseous infusion! If you don't know what that is, it's where they drill into the bone to start an IV when one can't be started (or time is short) on a patient who needs medicine/fluids/etc or death is imminent. I was able to practice with the drill on the bone model. They were teaching the ER nurses and invited me in. How cool is that?!

I'd love to hear the cool things you learned on your clinical day, because every day we should learn something! Read More...

About Military Nursing

Military nurses care for those who serve, or those who have served, while in an active duty, reserve, or national guard capacity. In this article, we are primarily considering RNs. The only branch of the military that utilizes LPNs/LVNs is the Army, who has LPNs/LVNs that are enlisted soldiers. In general, military nurses are located all over the world, from clinics to hospitals to austere compounds in war zones. This unique specialty can be quite demanding and stressful, especially when nurses are deployed away from loved ones and families. Disclaimer: I am an Army nurse, and that is the segment of military nursing with which I am most familiar. The information for other services may vary, but an attempt has been made to include information for all branches as well as the US Public Health Service (USPHS). Read More...

Nurse told me prereqs are the hardest part

I was talking to a nurse yesterday about how I was worried about the intensity of a 1 year ABSN program. She has been working as a nurse for a few years and she told me that the prereqs were the most difficult part for her. Nurses, do you agree? Read More...

Reprimanded for reporting medication errors and so much more

I'm currently a nursing student and while at a clinical facility I noticed that another student failed to give insulin to a patient. So before the end of shift I went over the MAR to make sure that everyone had documented and to do a narcotic count before leaving. I brought up the medication error to the instructor and the instructor informed me that the issue would be taken care of. The instructor sends out the students to the med cart to rectify the issues. One of the student, who missed the insulin, begins to shift the blame on me and then proceeded to argue with the RN who was in charge of the cart. Read More

Oh! My feet! What are the best shoes to wear at work??

Can anyone offer advice on the best shoes for comfort that are also reasonably priced? I've been to some stores specifically for nursing and the shoes were as expensive as Jordan's! I just can't afford that right now and I need better shoes by Friday. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Read More...

About Government Nursing

Government nurses, like their military counterparts, care for those who serve, or those who have served, but in a civilian/nonmilitary capacity. In this article, we are considering RNs as well as LPNs. Government nurses are located all over the world, from clinics to hospitals. There are literally hundreds of different roles these nurses fill for a variety of agencies and entities: everything from Department of Defense to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to the Architect of the Capitol.
