Couldn't pee for my drug test! :(

I went to get the drug test today. I drank two bottles of water this morning, and had the maximum allowed 6 cups of water at the testing center. They stood right outside the bathroom and only gave me 4 minutes in there each time... and I couldn't go. Not the first time, and not the fourth time, after waiting 30 minutes+ in between each try. It's not that I didn't have to go. I had to go badly. But my bladder would just not cooperate. I was there for 2 and a half hours and had to get home, so I just had them cancel that application, and they told me to pick up a new form from my school so I could come back and try again.

I was wondering if I'd be able to get a hair follicle test instead? Does anyone know if their schools allow them to do this if they can't give a urine sample? Like I said, I have nothing to hide. Ugh. I already asked my school, but I haven't heard back yet. Has anyone else here had this problem? Read More...

Paying for Course syllabus?

The ADN program that I will be entering as a first year student on August 19th charges for the course syllabus & guide, which also includes the lab manual and clinical manual created by the instructors at the college. It is a highly detailed and specific 216 page document, there is a ton of information and guidance in this packet. It includes schedules, dates, rubrics for assignments, what is covered in each class, lab and clinical, information on tests, assignments, group projects, lab skills and papers. Etc etc etc. Do other schools charge for this? Do other schools create their own lab manual and clinical manual? I mentioned this in another thread and there were a couple of comments questioning this practice. Read More...

Relax. Your past won't haunt you.

Did you really think that stealing the cookie from the jar would keep you out of nursing school? What other stories have you heard about? I'm sure there are many out there - from the 40's, 60's, 80's, last year ??? Just curious... Read More...

I'm super excited about the fact that my first orientation is in 17 days. I know it's still kinda super far away but it's exciting because once I do my online orientation then the clock starts ticking. Everything becomes real from here on out. I kinda have some idea of things that I am supposed to be getting done so I've been working on that already but I am just so excited to be getting started. Our first orientation is online and our in person orientation is in November. I'm sure by the time November hits I'm gonna be crazy lol but either way it goes I am still super excited right now. Heads up to all new nursing students:

I remember being new to nursing school and I remember freaking out about how difficult nursing school was going to be for me, especially after reading many posts on here. I was stressing out the entire summer before my first fall semester and I kept doubting that I would be able to get through these classes.

A lot of people on here say that nursing school will suck up all of your time and you will be studying 24/7 and left with no social life. Now, I understand that everyone is a different type of student, but DON'T go into nursing school thinking that it will be pure hell to get through. EVERYONE is different. What may be difficult for some may be easy for others. Don't stress about it so much ahead of time. It may be easier than you think. You won't know until you experience these classes on your own. This website is GREAT for advice, but I just wanted to advise you not to stress out over what people say about how hard nursing school is. Not saying it is a walk in the park but I don't find it too bad so maybe you may not too! Read More...

Father going back to school for nursing - Need advice

I am starting my prereqs this fall and after nursing school I do not know what to choose. I can either further my education and get my BSN then got to CRNA school or get a BS and choose another field to go into such as go to medical school or DDS. The reason I'm becoming a nurse is I recently got laid off from work and I was signed up for a Texas paid program to pay for my tuition for 130 weeks and a RN fit the time limit criteria. I always wanted to be a nurse. I just got caught up with working 80 hour weeks and supporting my family. Being laid off with financial support and tuition covered is like a second chance for me. The reason I am considering a BS is because it opens many doors for other medical fields. Read More...

Nervous about my sciences , how much time needed for studying?

I am taking my prerequisite to obtain my BSN. I am pretty much done with all of them except for my sciences and stats. This fall semester will be A & P 1 and chem both with lab. I am a wife and mother if 3. Two of my kiddos go to school. My study time is basically when my 2 yo goes down for his nap, which is 3 hours, and when my kids go to bed at night, about 1 1/2 hours. I could take advantage of his nap time about 5 to 6 days a week and the 1 1/2 hours at night about 3 to 4 times a week. Is that enough study time for both A&P 1 and chem, both with labs? I am just nervous about the science classes. Read More...

New Student Loans Rules

I am feeling a little stressed. My community college that I am attending just notified me that I am not qualified for student loans because I already have either $15,000 or more in loans. Which by the way are NOT defaulted. They have come up with this ridiculous rule that students are not allowed to borrow any more if they have at least $15,000 in student loans already starting this school year. I've been accepted for the Fall 2013 Nursing Program and is ready to start this August on the 26th. I was going to go part-time or either registry because of the course load and needed these loans to get me by. Have anybody experienced this at their community college? Read More

Can I go to community college and transfer into a BSN program?

I'm a high school senior and my ideal route would be going to a 4 year uni right away... but I'm not completely sure if I'd get accepted. So I'm thinking worst case scenario, I go to a community college (CC). No matter where I go, my ultimate goal is to get a BSN (not an ADN).

Can I go to a CC for 2-3 years for my general education/prereqs, then transfer to a university and complete their BSN program? Is this possible?

I don't want to go to CC for 3 years, wait YEARS to get accepted into the college's ADN program (community colleges are SO congested, esp in California), then get my ADN, be on the wait list again, then finally get accepted and complete a RN to BSN program. This route will take at least a year longer. Read More...

How are you juggling your relationship w/ school?

First semester for me was rough. Hubby didn't understand the rigors of nursing school and felt neglected. I was doing my very best but after clinical, studying, care plans, being mommy and getting ready for the next day, I was never in the mood for anything remotely romantic or sexual. That led to some infidelity on his part and although we're working through it, I'm afraid that this next year of school is going to be the same way. This semester I have two clinicals and longer hours so that means more work and time away. I'm also working weekends and he works nights throughout the week. He's also going back to school full time this semester. It sounds like a lot but we have bills to pay, goals to accomplish and a mouth to feed. I'm so afraid my dedication to nursing school is going to be the death of my relationship. I try my best to do lunch dates or spend what little time we have together but what if that's not enough? How are you all making time for your significant other? Read More...

Unbinding books?

I've almost finished accumulating the books that I'm going to need for nursing school this fall (I start my ADN program on August 19th), and even though there are a couple books that haven't been delivered yet I already have almost fifty pounds of books! My cousin told me that what he did in pharmacy school was to get his books unbound and then just take the chapters he needed to class with him (he kept the unbound books in sheet protectors in three-ring binders). Personally I think that this is a great idea and am heavily leaning toward doing that with my nursing texts, but I was wondering if anyone else has done this and how well it worked? I'm a bit worried that I'm going to unbind all my books and then discover that it really doesn't work well. Read More...

[Poll] Bad reviews vs NO reviews

There is only one day I can take micro this fall. On this day the class is offered twice. Prof A has pretty bad ratings, Professor B has none. I assume Professor B is a new teacher. I've also heard from someone who took Professor A's class and she said stay away! Read More...
