WGU writes: RN-BSN in 6 months is a rumor, not do-able

Here is a quote from the BSN community site mentor:

"Hi everyone! I know that there have been some rumors about finishing the RN-BSN program in 6 months, and I wanted to clear up those rumors.

A 6 month finish is highly unlikely due to the fact that certain courses can't be taken in the same term;please speak to your mentor about this. However we encourage and support students to accelerate through courses at their own pace It IS possible to finish the program in two terms (12 months) - and I have actually heard of students completing it in as little as 10 months - but 6 months is definitely very difficult. I know this may be disappointing to those of you who may have been hoping to finish it in 6 months, and I do apologize for that." Read More...

How many times were you rejected before getting into nursing school?

I was rejected by 5 schools and am feeling pretty bummed out about it. I'd like to know what your experiences were in this. How many times were you rejected before getting into nursing school?

I'd really like to hear from students who've had exceptional circumstances getting into nursing school.

For those who've gotten in the first try, please reserve your posts for another discussion. I'd really like to hear from those who've really persevered to reach their goals. Read More...

Want to quit nursing school.

I have been to nursing school twice already. Failed one time and starting again. I'm now in my second semester and I'm doing much better. My grades are at the top of my class. My problem is that I don't want to be a nurse. It's never been my dream to, nor do I plan on staying in nursing. It's all to make my parents happy, and I hate that they say how proud they are of me for doing it, but it makes me feel ugly inside because I'm not proud of myself. I want to become a graphic artist because it's what I've been doing all my life. I LOVE it! It's my passion! I've been working as a freelancer and I don't make a lot of money doing it, but I really don't care. Read More...

New CNA- How to deal with body pain?

I started my first day as a CNA today at a hospital. OMG! my body feels like it is going to fall apart, i even cried after my shift walking to the bus stop because I was so weak and my body from my lower back to the tips of my toes were in so much pain. Even though I'm only 20 I have always had lower back pain when I stand for too long. The CNA that I was orienting with today said that she just got used to it. She's in her 40s and a little bigger than me but it didn't even effect her she seemed just as fine as when she started the shift I couldn't understand it. i'm going to go stretch and I will start doing some back and thigh exercises to strengthen my body. I started working out not too long ago b/c I'm 40 pounds overweight (but even the people bigger than me don't seem to be effected). Any advice about how to deal with severe pain after a working in this field? Read More...

Is it just me or does everyone hate nursing?

All of the experienced nurses on here really seem to hate their job, and it is disheartening.
Students will express concern over the severity of certain clinicals, and so many people say we've signed up for the wrong career, or we need to get over it. We're students, we aren't nurses yet. Everyone also always assumes we will be a staff nurse in a hospital. What if we're a nurse in a doctor's office, or clinic? What is we were doing administrative duties, or want to be a school nurse? How are you paying for Nursing school?

I have been attending a community college and either used government loans and/or paid out of pocket, and my husbands work reimbursed us a total of $3000 for tuition. Now I am getting ready to transfer to a different school that costs $18000/year but since I have taken quite a few of classes I will probably pay about $13000. I am eligible for about $9000 in government loans so where else should I get school loans? I'm nervous because I've only ever used the loans that don't accrue interest and then are very low interest until paid off. Read More...

If half the class failed the course, who's to blame?

I took a mandatory business administration writing intensive class last summer, and it was the first time they offered it in the summer. I was told that it was going to be extremely demanding, and that if English wasn't you're first language, don't even consider taking it in the summer. Apparently, they told us that the average failure rate for this class during the regular semester was 20%.

Fast forward to the end, apparently 40-45% of the students who took this course in the summer FAILED. That's right, half the class. I'm assuming it's because of the "PASS/FAIL" exam that we took at the end, which basically meant that if you didn't pass that exam, you would fail the class regardless of your current grade. I had an 89% up till that point, then once I the Mastery Exam came, my grade dropped down to a D. Read More...

What am I doing wrong! I just want to cry.

I just got back my lecture test we took before break. Well on the questions I got 70/80, but on the two essay questions worth 20 points total I got a 6. So I got a 76% on my test. The last lecture test I got a 70% and the lab test I got a 46%!!! The lab test I totally screwed up on especially this one question I just did not read correctly so I saw that coming. I have a low D in the class. It's a struggle to find time to study b/c I'm a single mom of a young baby but I thought I worked out a system. I got up super early and stayed up really late and I still did bad. I just want to cry. I need at least a B in this class or else I can kiss my nursing dream good bye. We have two lecture tests, 1 lab test, the lab journal, and one paper left all worth a 100 points so I think I can do it as long as I do super good from this point out. However, I just calculated what I would have in this class if I got a 95% on the next test and it'd barely be a C!! So, I'm asking you all, how do I study for this test? Read More...

This is just very unfair, not sure about nursing future

I am just really bitter about nursing. I failed one course, and was prepared to take it over again. Recently, I discovered that my school has revised one of the nursing courses in the curriculum. It will incorporate the course I failed with the course I passed--so the class will be combined. Which means I will have to retake two courses over again, one I already passed. I am very angry, and upset about this. I worked so hard to pass that other course, it was not easy for me, and to discover I have to do it all over again is enough to make me want to quit nursing school all together and pursue something else. I don't even want to think about this because it brings tears to my eyes. It was a very rough semester for me and to have to retake something that I passed (which was not easy for me) is so painful.
