"I Haven't Made Any Friends Yet!"

Many first-semester and first-quarter nursing students worry about not finding new friends while in school. Don't become too concerned over not making friends in your nursing program. It is true that bonding with classmates is always a good thing, but always remember that you aren't in nursing school to make friends. Your primary goal for being there is to learn how to become a competent nurse. Read More...

Has anyone taken A&P and Microbiology in the same semester?

I just registered for this upcoming semesters classes and I wanted to take Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology together so I can apply for the nursing program after the summer semester.. Is this a bad Idea or should I just go ahead and knock it out. I'm not working at the moment and I have a lot of support from my family when it comes to "money" so I'm just trying to get some good advice from someone who has already been through this... Student nurse and Video games.

Just wanted to know if nursing is going to take up all my time. I occasionally like to play video games and so far I've gone through a semester in the nursing program while playing video games. Next semester I will be taking 4 nurses courses, in which 1 is a clinical course. Will I still have time for video games? Read More...

What are your ultimate goals?

My Reasons For Avoiding The Acute Care Hospital

I've been asked the same question by members of allnurses.com, real-life coworkers, and even some of my own family members: "Why aren't you interested in working at a major hospital?"

My relatively short nursing career consists of experience in long term care, rehabilitation (acute and sub-acute), and psych. For the past two and a half years I've been employed at a small specialty hospital that provides acute rehabilitation services, and to be honest, I think it's wonderful when a patient discharges to home with the ability to walk and talk when he was bedridden and unable to speak just two weeks ago. Need advice, just failed first semester of nursing school

I just finished my first semester trying to obtain my BS in nursing. I want to continue this career so badly. How can I obtain this goal? I was so close in passing but I did not. Now that I am here, I am trying to see if I can continue and apply to other nursing programs. I will apply to any nursing school, from BSN, associates, to LVN, as long as I can become a nurse. Will it look bad in my record if I have failed my first semester of nursing school? Read More...

FDA Expands Tamiflu Use to Treat Babies Under 1 Year Old

Tamiflu (oseltamivir) can now be given to children as young as 2 weeks old under an expanded approval announced Friday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Tamiflu can be used as treatment in children aged 2 weeks to 1 year if they have had flu symptoms for no longer than two days. The drug is not approved to prevent flu in these children and the safety and effectiveness of Tamiflu in children younger than 2 weeks of age has not been established. Read More...

Community College or State University??!!

I am unsure about my school path, and was wondering if anyone had some advice. I have been a LPN since 2009, and have completed all pre-reqs for nursing school. I have been attending the community college in my area (HCC) and was planning on applying to their LPN-RN transition program. It would take me 3 semesters; starting summer 2013. The problem is, the hospital I want to work at only hires RNs with a BSN. I know there are ADN-BSN online programs, but I am not good with online classes. Read More...

Scared of finishing nursing school and starting my career.

I will be starting my last semester of nursing school in January and will graduate in May, but I'm really scared about starting my career as a nurse. I've heard that some hospitals let you start by working with a nurse as you get oriented to the floor but some just throw you in there and expect you figure it out. I know I should be really excited about making it this far, but I just keep worrying about it. Does anyone else feel this way? Read More...
