Student Nursing Association and Nursing Instructor impacted my life

Whether it be in the classroom, in clinical setting, or in the work setting; as a nurse I recognize that I am constantly impacting others with my words and actions and am also being molded by the actions and words of those around me. As a male nursing student (or any nursing student for that matter), it is a very unique challenge to stand up, let alone survive, in the midst of all the drama that can sometimes consume a nursing programs' student body. Let's be honest, males struggle to understand females regardless of how much they care about them, and emerging myself in the midst of a program that is >95% female, things were going to be challenging. Part II: "Nurses Eat Their Young"

I understand that not all nurses eat their young. I am ESPECIALLY thankful to the nurses who I've encountered in my short career of being a nursing student, who have taken the time to show me the ropes and who have inspired me in so many indescribable ways. However, I certainly cannot say that every nurse I have come across has taken the time to show me a thing or even acknowledge me for that matter! Read More...

Nursing students learn how to toughen up

It takes a lot of determination and heart to finish nursing school. It's not for everyone.

How do I toughen up? How do I keep from giving up? How do I stop from crying? These are questions that new nursing students ask themselves.

For those already in school, what is your take on it? Is it as hard as people say it is? Do you have any tips for new students? Read More...

Surviving Nursing School and Marriage

Just wondering how much nursing school has affected your marriage? Right now my husband and I are not getting along and a lot has to do with me in school and him working overnights so I can go to school (we have 2 kids and limited childcare). His sleep is compromised and I know I may have snapped once or twice, blah, blah, blah. But I'm really scared how this may turn out and will it be worth it in the end? I am trying to stay calm and balance school, kids, housework, sleep, you know being a mom and a student and add to that finance issues. Its a lot at one time. Any suggestions?? Read More...

What made you pursue your nursing career?

I did not always want to be a nurse. Growing up, I never even new what a nurse job consisted of, or what they did on a daily basis. I stayed in a hospital once or twice .. and new they took care of people, but that was the extent of knowing what nurses did. Read More...

Nursing instructor blues

I felt so deflated after my lectures today. There are 2 nursing instructors in my program who give me the distinct feeling that they don't think much of me. I'm not constantly obsessing about it, but the seed has been planted in my subconscious...it has brought down my feelings about everything connected with nursing school, and even contributed to doubts about whether nursing is really for me... Fundamentals & using an alternative base source? Eliminating Potter & Perry

We need to read the material BEFORE being lectured on it, just to be quizzed on it. My prof's lectures are useless anyway and she doesn't release the powerpoints. She never finishes all the powerpoints and is extremely fast paced. I feel screwed. The midterm is 2 weeks away and there will be 13 chapters required to know. I've come to realize that this Potter & Perry (8th ed.) book elaborates on a bunch of non-sense in depth, mixed with the main Nursing concepts, principles, etc. Read More...

Part I: Nursing school isn't hard...

Nursing school is hard but not the kind of hard some people are afraid of. People have asked me if nursing school is as hard as people say it is or tell me that he or she could never get through nursing school because it just “seems so hard!” I like to explain to these people that nursing school is not hard, it is challenging and challenging in a GOOD WAY!
