Now I keep a notebook just in case management pulls me in for questioning I can back it up and say yes or no i had this patient or this pt was discharged or admitted at this time. Is this good or bad practice?

My understanding is that new nurses (recent graduates) are the most likely to leave the field. If true, why is this? Is it because they underestimated the job's demands?

How do you deal with explosive customers?

I know you're supposed to remain calm, but that seems to add fuel to the fire...

At the end of the interview, I asked if there was anything more she wanted to say. She then proceeded to tell me that I should really pay more attention to my weight, since being overweight puts me at risk for diabetes and cardiac problems, especially at my age. OK, so I am 25 pounds overweight, and around 50, and I know the risks, but do you really tell a potential manager that she is old and fat? Needless to say, I will not be offering her a position.

MRI Use Increasing for Evaluating Stroke Patients

The use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the evaluation of hospitalized stroke patients has dramatically increased over the past decade, according to an article published in the February issue of the Annals of Neurology.

You know you are a pediatric nurse when...?

...you are looking at adorable pictures of your friend's 5-month-old baby on facebook, and almost the first thing you notice is his lovely big, straight scalp vein, and you therefore see it as a plus that he doesn't have almost any hair yet. Yikes!

But anyway, I was wondering what programs you all would recommend

Are nurses required to do HHA visits in your agency?

We have new administration in our agency and they are making the nurses pick up the overflow from the HHA's. Does any other agency do this? I question whether they can make us assume the role of another discipline. I have worked for this agency for 3 years and have never had to do this.
