So many nurses talk about feeling scared, guilty and worried a good part of the time. A little bit of heightened awareness can keep us on our toes, but marinating in adrenalin isn't healthy. What are all these stressed-out folks to do?
Nursing Articles
I've been a nurse for a lONG time -- probably longer than most of you reading this have been alive. Had I known what I was getting into, I probably would not have gotten into it. Fortunately, I had no idea. I say fortunately, because nursing has been an interesting and flexible career that has afforded me a nice lifestyle and kept me from being bored. I wouldn't go back and change my mind about going into nursing if I could...
For nine months she carried him in her uterus. Made sure she gets enough sleep and was able to take her iron pills and milk regularly as advised by her Obstetrician. She read him books and let him hear classical music on her iPod because she believes it enhances brain development. She prepared well for nine long months. And now, her precious angel is excited to see the world, with contractions lasting up to five minutes.
First Year After Nursing Licensure
I'm a first year nurse and have started my new job one month ago. Today I made the dumbest mistake a nurse, or anyone could make. I drew up the wrong dose of insulin into a non-insulin syringe, (it was suppose to be given as IV PUSH). I drew up 0.4mL and ridiculously thought it was 4 units, when it is 40 units.

Several risk factors that can be identified at the time of pregnancy confirmation correlate with stillbirth; and obstetric complications and placental abnormalities are the most common causes of stillbirth, and show racial discrepancies, according to two studies published in the Dec. 14 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Critical Care Nursing
I'm currently working as a contact nurse on a med/surg/tele unit. At the end of my contract in May 2012, I will have almost a year and a half of acute care experience. I'm just wondering what is the best way to transition into critical care nursing? The hospital I currently work for is not very supportive in transferring med/surg/tele nurses out to other units.
Has anyone ever heard of air getting into a completely deflated trach cuff? As far as I know, no one injected the air. This child has a trach that we were keeping the cuff filled with 1.5ml to 2 ml of sterile H2O, as ordered. Has been weaned down to no H2O in the cuff. Air was noticably in the cuff this morning, as the balloon was inflated. Balloon was completed deflated all day (8 hrs).
Nursing Student
I'm new to this site....
So here is my story, I'm 24 years old. I'm attending a 4 year college and I'm in my Junior year. I'm completing my pre-reqs so that I can get into the program at my school.
Now that I'm older and watch the people of my H.S. class already integrated in their field of choice I just can't help but feel discouraged, All I can think about is that I'll be so old by the time I have my FIRST bachelors degree ... Sometimes I cry to sleep thinking I'll never get there. I dont want to give up, and I know I should move forward and not dwell on the past and let go of the "what if's"... I'm just venting ... I know what I want, and I want to become a nurse. I just hope I can make it there.
