Crushed by "The Crud": Anatomy of a Sick Day

I've long prided myself on my stellar immune system, which used to be strong enough to fight off the squirrels in the front yard. While everyone around me was dropping like flies, I soldiered on, taking care of the sick and the weakened, my invisible coat of armor protecting me from all invaders. I figured that I owed it all to being a nurse; after all, we get exposed to just about everything under the sun, and if it doesn't kill us, it makes us almost invincible. Almost...

Are LPN's being phased out?

I know people have been saying for years that everyone would need a BSN and LPN's would be a thing of the past, etc. Well, so far, where I work there are still many, many nurses without a BSN - but there are very few LPN's...

Male nurses hired faster?

I've heard there is a "glass elevaltor" for male nurses. My question is - do you think it's easier for a new grad male nurse to find a job vs a female? Also, I know that nurses can be very agressive with new nurses on a unit, does a male nurse have a target on his back as a noob in the unit especially as a new grad? I'm trying to decide between RT and ADN school right now (i've been accepted to both) and this is one of my concerns as a potential future nurse.

I just registered for my last required class (Microbiology) and will be ready to apply for the nursing program at the end of Fall semester. I plan to get my BSN but am currently attending a community college. Would it make more sense to transfer to university now, rather than get my 2 year RN from the community college and then transfer?

Mixed Emotions About Nsg School

I've been a full time stay at home mom for the past seven years. I started nursing school last fall and am finishing up my first full year of school. The demands of nursing school are great and I am struggling with feeling guilty over not spending time with my kids. I'm not used to being away from my kids so much and I can tell it's impacting their behavior...

Hey all, I've been in Hawaii for about a year now and am having a hard time getting a RN job at the hospital and in general. Does anyone have any tips? Seems like RN jobs in Hawaii are extremely hard or you face heavy competition.
