Nursing Articles
This article presents what nurses have to endure on a daily basis. I just want people to understand that it takes a lot of heart to do our job. Honestly, nurses are a special breed of people.

Imagine my suprise this weekend when I get to work and find out that new policy is that the RN's will make toast for the pt trays!!!!
Yes, that's right, dietary will only send bread up and we are expected to toast it in the toasters provided to the unit. So now, I have to pick up the tray when it is dropped at the desk, take it to the pts room, take the bread all the way back to the convienetly located toaster (NOT) and bring it back.
I work in AICU, anyone think I really have the time for this malarkey??? I was really frustrated over this one and I told the charge nurse they better get some techs up here if this is what they expect. I can only hear the complaints now..."The nurse didnt make my toast right!"
I'm only a newbie in nursing and, already, the thought of leaving this field gives me a strange sense of overwhelming peace. I almost feel odd for admitting it. I feel like I shouldn't even admit that. I'm actually a little nervous to see what kind of replies I receive based off my honesty. I hope that people aren't too harsh. It's a feeling I have been struggling with, yet pushing down deep inside of me.
Don't get me wrong, I am passionate about it, but I just have those days where I daydream of doing pretty much any job, but nursing. The thought of getting out of nursing and accepting a mundane, office desk job actually gives me this overwhelming sense of peace & relief...
What are some questionable/controversial/old-fashioned Nursing actions currently in use right now? I need to find a topic to write about. I don't have a lot of clinical experiences and really don't have the ability to tell if something is old or incorrect.
The examples that I was given to help direct my search are:
- The use of chlorahexadine vs. betadine
- Saline flushes vs. herparin for IV locks
- The use of saline bullets for trach/ET suctioning
As you can see, the kind of topics I need are "this vs. that" or "do vs. do not". I'm having a very hard time with my private searching and thought I would ask more experienced nurses.

It's a crappy job market and economy. I was just wondering what my fellow umemployed new grads were doing while they are job hunting and pulling out their hair. I'm just finishing up my last couple flu clinics while still looking for a job. What about you? Are you parking cars or working at Starbucks just to make a few dollars until you land that nursing position?
The closest community college to me has a rate of about 75%..and the state average is 84%. The second closest has a pass rate of 87%..they are about 60 miles from my house.
In your opinion is 75 way to low to be a good school?
What is your schools pass rate?
Hi everyone! It's great to become a member of this community where we can share thoughts and experiences to people who shares the same. I failed my nclex-rn exam the first time. It was really a horrible feeling knowing that you tried your best to review and yet you didn't make it. Well maybe i haven't pushed myself that much but I really did my best. I think that's what's more important. Doing our best in every endeavor we make. It makes us more eager and determined to be successful the next time around...
Regional Discussion - Pennsylvania
Hi all! I applied to Penn State Altoona for their second degree program and received a letter that says I won't hear from them until possibly March. Is this common for them? Does anyone know what GPA they are looking for? I'm still taking a few courses (3 this semester and one in the spring.) Would that effect it?
