Some people have callously accused us that we took up nursing for the money. I beg to disagree. Nursing, although it provides a steady income, requires more than the drive to earn money. It requires the dedication, patience and sacrifice. Being a nurse means missing out on family occasions and festivities. It means spending more time at the hospital than at home.

The researchers found that current use of fish oil was associated with a lower risk of breast cancer (hazard ratio, 0.68). Participants' 10-year average use was linked to a trend toward reduced risk. The decreased risk with current fish oil usage was seen in ductal carcinoma but not lobular carcinoma. Supplements not associated with risk included black cohosh, dong quai, soy, St. John's wort, and grapeseed.

How do I negotiate salary as a new grad WITH hospital experience. I have worked in a hospital for the past 3+ years so I am not completely new to the health care field. I think I deserve more as a new grad with hospital experience compared to someone who worked for walmart until the day before graduation and the only hospital time they had was clinicals. So how do I bring this up when discussing salary?
Please do not interrupt my lunch to tell me that my patient (who is being watched by a CNA while I eat) "doesn't trust" me and that you think he needs Ativan. He's been asking for it all day. He's been diagnosed with paranoid delusions -- of course he doesn't trust me. And he's got a well documented history of alcohol and benzo abuse.
In the hospital where I used to work, family members would come up to the desk all the time to say "dad needs a _______ (blanket, cup, straw) and I developed a nasty habit of saying (in a perfectly innocent tone) "Does he know how to use the call light?" Gradually my tone started getting more and more sarcastic. Had to stop that one after a few nasty looks. oops.

Does anybody know of any CNA jobs where you don't have to wash the patients or or wipe butts? Also I'm a sophomore BSN student with an associates in engineering and 6 months volunteer work at a hospital and worked in plant engineering at another hospital. Might any of this helps with job oppertunities where I don't have to wipe or wash people?
I am a mother to a 9 month old baby boy and soon to be married. I start school for pre nursing this fall. I have been sooo excited about it..I love to discuss my future goals and dreams to other people. When they ask me what I am going to school for they look at me like there is no way I could ever become a nurse. Some have responeded "Nursing is hard with a baby, I would be suprised if you could do it."
Regional Discussion - Michigan
My boyfriend and I are looking to move to Michigan within the next month or so for his teaching job in Howell, MI. I have been looking for jobs out there but have not had any luck so far with any new grad postings. I think we are planning on living in the Ann Arbor area but I don't mind driving a little to a hospital outside the area. Does anyone know of any hospitals that are hiring new grads?
