Nurse Educator Chronicles: Gladys

by VickyRN

Gladys was a senior nursing student, in her fourth semester (out of five) in the rough and tough ADN program. She was very insecure and it showed in her demeanor. She had self-esteem issues and sometimes came across as “goofy.” She was middle-aged and morbidly obese, with an awkward air, and was clumsy. read more

Learning to perform nursing procedures correctly and safely is imperative for nursing students. Practice, persistence, and keen attention to detail are key. What is the worst thing a patient has ever said to you?

by NurseStephRN

Is it me, or are patients getting ruder and more disrespectful each time you clock in for work? I don't usually let rude patients/families get to me, but last night I had to deal with the most insane people ever. I had the misfortune of informing the patient and his family that he had gone into rapid a-fib and his cardiologist was not on call. The patient didn't believe that he was having a rapid ventricular response since "he didn't feel that his heart was going fast," and had me count an apical pulse and call the monitor tech to see if she concurred with my rate. read more

Have recent generations forgotten correct spelling and grammar?

by CASTLEGATES

I've noticed some new professionals with an apparent lack of basic grade-school grammar and spelling skills; have you? Permanent records with misspells, resumes with misspells and grammar errors seem to be on the rise (not to mention our spoken language). Please disregard our last president, though...maybe it all started then? read more

Excelsior College - almost seems too easy

by SweettartLPN

I just can't help but feel sometimes that this is too easy almost. I am passing these classes with minimal studying and a majority of it seems as if it is a review of my practical nursing courses. I have read that they get more difficult, but I am wondering if the foundation has been laid already and I learned more than I originally thought I did in nursing school the first time around.? read more

Has anyone heard from the John Muir New grad program?

by decnewgrad

I'm curious if anyone applied to the John Muir Walnut Creek program earlier this month and if so, have you heard anything back ? I know that they canceled the program in Concord but were keeping the program open in Walnut Creek. I have no idea how many positions will be in the Walnut Creek program as the recruiter wasn't sure when I last spoke to her. Anyhow, any info anyone has would be appreciated. I'll post as soon as I hear anything as well. read more
